Bonnie Phillips Block 1 2/7/11 Friar- told a tale about the Summoner which evoked anger in the Summoner. He was a priest that was quick to marry people and accepted bribes. Thomas- a sick homeowner whose baby died few weeks ago. Lord of Village- who Thomas complains to. Lord’s Squire- problem solver. Friar told a tale about the Summoner which evoked anger in him, so he decided to tell a tale about the Friar. A Friar goes down to Hell and is surprised to see that there was not a single Friar there. Were they so great and had escaped evil? The Angel that had taken the Friar to Hell then asked Satan to lift up his tale and 20,000 Friars came out of his butt. The Friar was constantly begging people for money in Yorkshire. The Friar went door to door asking for money when he arrived at Thomas’s house and found him sick. The Friar tells Thomas and his wife that their baby that had died a few weeks ago had entered heavens gates. The Friar exclaims that he is closest to God among the clergy because he is in poverty. He tells Thomas that he is not getting better because he has not given enough money to the church. Thomas admits that he has given a lot of money to the church, but it has just been dispersed among the multiple friars which angers the Friar. He wanted all his money for himself. The Friar preached at Thomas and then asked for money. Thomas told the Friar that he had a gift for him, but only if he was willing to share it with the other friars. The Friar promised and Thomas gave him a gift, a nice loud fart. The Friar was enraged and went to tell the lord of the village. The lord’s squire had a suggestion for sharing the fart with the other friars. He suggested a wheel that would carry the fart and disperse it amongst the friars.
