I. There will be a Separation
 Death - means separation
 God created man with a soul – Gen.
2:7
 Body + Soul = Life Ps. 139:13
 Sin ~ expelled from Garden of Eden –
Gen. 2:17; Rom. 5:12
 What is death?
I. There will be a Separation
“For as the body without the
spirit is dead, so faith without
works is dead also.” Jas. 2:26
“That separation of the soul from
the body by which the life on
earth is ended.” [Thayers]
Gen. 35:18 “as her soul was
departing.”
Luke 23:46 “gave up the ghost”
I. There will be a Separation
“For dust you are, And to dust you
shall return.”

“Then shall the dust return to the
earth as it was: and the spirit shall

In that first minute after death the
soul and body become separated
from each other !
What happens to the soul / spirit?
II. There Will be an Escort for the Spirit
 Some have the idea that the soul
wanders around -- “ghosts”
“And it came to pass, that the beggar died,
and was carried by the angels into
Abraham's bosom” Luke 16:22
 no chance of altering destiny – Heb. 9:27
III. There Will be an Assignment
Our soul will be in Hades
“Today shalt thou be with me in
paradise.” Luke 23:43
Jesus died – buried – resurrected

spirits go to await the resurrection
