Ottomar Heinsius von Mayenburg *5/12/1865 in Schönheide †12/06/1932 in Wörthersee The Invention of the Toothpaste In May 1907 Ottomar Heinsius von Mayenburg began with the production of the toothpaste. He mixed tooth powder with gargle and essentail oils. He thought it would be easier to use than tooth powder when you brush your teeth. He sold toothpaste in a metal tin, in contrast to porcelain tin. In 1917 Ottomar Heinsius von Mayenburg had a company with over 60 laboratory technicians. Old New Later he set up factories not only in Germany but all over Europe and America, where the toothpaste was produced in tubes. The Chlorodont- toothpaste was available till 1989.
