CONSTRUCTION
Ceramic Hand-Building Techniques
Pinch Pots
A bowl or vessel created with one piece of clay
 An opening is created by pressing your thumb into
the center of the ball of clay
 Pinch using your thumb and fingers starting at the
base and working your way up to the top
 The finished product
should look something like this

Coil Pot
A vessel created by attaching
and smoothing coils of clay onto
a base created from a trimmed
slab of clay.
 The shape of the base determines the shape of the coil pot.
 At least one side of the coils need to be smoothed to secure the
structure, but both can be smoothed if desired.
 To make the pot expand, place the coils on the outer edge of
the rim.
 To make the pot shrink, place the coils on the inner edge of the
rim.
 REMEMBER, always score and slip when attaching a coil from a
new piece of clay.
