WALKING CATFISH
MAKE NESTS OUT OF SUBMERGED VEGETATION
THE MALE GUARDS THE EGGS AND YOUNG
OTHER FISHES, BIRDS, REPTILES PREY ON THEM--WADING BIRDS
ESPECIALLY LIKE TO FIND THEM STRANDED IN SHALLOW DRYING
POOLS
FROM TIME TO TIME THEY CAN BE SEEN MIGRATING EN MASSE
FROM ONE BODY OF WATER TO ANOTHER, OFTEN CROSSING BUSY
ROADS AND BEING HIT BY CARS
POSE A THREAT TO NATIVE FISHES--THEY EAT THE EGGS OF NATIVE
FISHES
THEY CAN ADAPT TO HARSH HABITATS THAT CAUSE OTHER FISH TO
DIE, SO THEY CAN TAKE OVER THE ENVIRONMENT
THEY HAVE AN ORGAN THAT ALLOWS THEM TO BREATHE OUT OF
WATER; THEY CAN LIVE ABOUT 12 HOURS OUT OF WATER

The walking catfish is like Satan and his
followers. They can do a lot of things that
Christians, or other fish, cannot do.
What are some of those things?

LIE
EAT, DRESS, PLAY ANY WAY YOU WANT
BE GREEDY AND THINK OF YOURSELF FIRST

Winter trees look dead.
12
13
They have no leaves or blossoms.

Here is a tree in the summer, and we know
that all its leaves will fall off.
17
How does the tree
stay alive during the
winter months?

The Bible talks a lot about roots:
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the
faith (Colossians 2:7).
Rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:17).
I am the root and the offspring of David (Revelation
22:16).
The love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy
6:10).
23
It is through His power that summer and
winter . . . follow each other in their regular
succession. It is by His word that vegetation
flourishes, that leaves appear, and the
flowers bloom. (The Faith I Live By, p. 59)
24
In summer, as we look upon the trees of the distant
forest, all clothed with a beautiful mantle of green, we
may not be able to distinguish between the evergreens
and the other trees. But as winter approaches, and the
frost king encloses them in his icy embrace, stripping
the other trees of their beautiful foliage, the
evergreens are readily discerned.
25
26
27
Thus it will be with all who are walking in
humility . . . While those who are self-confident,
and trust in their own perfection of character, lose
their false robe of righteousness when subjected
to the storms of trial, the truly righteous, who
sincerely love and fear God, wear the robe of
Christ’s righteousness in prosperity and adversity
alike. (The Faith I Live By, p. 119)
28
This earth is the place of preparation for
heaven. The time spent here is the
Christian’s winter. Here the chilly winds
of affliction blow upon us, and the waves
of trouble roll against us. (Ms 28, 1886;
quoted in 7BC 988)
29
Every day we need to have strong roots, even
in winter, and we need to stay rooted and
grounded with Jesus, even though it looks like
Satan and his followers can do a lot of things
we cannot do.
