ROTATION & REVOLUTION
LO: I will distinguish between revolution and rotation; I will describe how the Earth's rotation
results in day and night.
Rotation: the amount of time it takes a planet to spin around on its axis one time
Axis: an imaginary line running through the center of the planet
Revolution: the amount of time it takes a planet to orbit around the Sun
Rotation
The Earth rotates once every 24 hours, or
one day
Revolution
A revolution of Earth takes one year.
Day & Night in the Summer
Longer days in the summer is
related to the tilt of the Earth's axis
Seasons
When you look at a Globe of the Earth,
you can see that the earth is tilted at an angle.
When the Earth travels around the Sun,
it remains tilted in the same direction.
This means that sometimes the top half of the
Earth is pointed towards the Sun,
and sometimes it is pointed away from the sun.
REAL AND APPARENT MOTION
