the modern INDUSTRIAL RELATION
system.
 Indian Trade Union Act 1926,defines
Trade Union as any combination,wether
temporary
or
permanent,
formal
primarily for the purpose of regulating
the relations b/w workmen & workmen
or workmen & employers or employers &
employers.
 Trade Union are a natural growth in an
industrial Society.
 In
the words of Dale Yoder,” Trade
Union is a continuing long term
association of employees formed and
maintained for the specific purpose of
advancing & protecting the interests of
members in their working relationships.”
 It gives the feel ,the heat of being
united.
 Trade Union came into being for a
variety of purposes.
IMPORTANCE OF TRADE UNOIN: Workers
need steady employment.
 Workers want to be heard by the
management.
 Workers want to protect themselves
from economic hazards beyond their
control.
 Workers believes in rationalization of
policies.
 Workers also want gaining legislative
enactments.
PROBLEMS OF TRADE UNION:-
Uneven Growth.
 Low Membership.
 Multiplicity of union.
 Inter union rivalry.
 Absence of paid office bearers.
 Weak financial position.
 Lack of interest.
 Lack of unity of trade union.
 Outside leadership.

FUNCTION OF TRADE UNION: To
acquire control over industry by
workers.
 To achieve higher wages and better
working condition & living for members.
 To raise the status of the workers as
partners in industry(T.U).
 To generate self-confidence among the
workers.
 To secure fair wages for workers.
 To
safeguard the security of tenure &
improve service condition.
 To provide for education ,cultural &
recreational facilities.
 To
protect individual & collective
welfare.
