The Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, and Polar Bears By Hannah Garvey What were the causes of the polar ice cap melting in the Arctic Ocean and what are the impacts of the melting towards the polar bears and other marine ecosystems and what are the steps for trying to prevent the extinction of the bears and their environment around them? Causes • Temperature of ocean is increasing • More CO2 in the atmosphere • Precipitation of freshwater Impacts • • • • • Food Chain Food sources move along with the ice Seals Whales Fisheries Impacts on Polar Bears • • • • Food sources declining Less time to gather food for winter Drowning Hunting Prevention • Governments admitted that there is a major risk up North. • WWF • WWF and Coca-Cola • WWF and Bank of America • Going Green Conclusion The climate is changing because of many reasons, and some cannot be changed, but projects and organizations can be put in place to keep the temperature at bay as long as possible. One person taking a stance against this climate change is only one little step but if every body took a stance, the polar bears could have a chance at living in their natural environment for another century.
