Extreme rain events in Illinois and Ohio valley.
Phase I flood fight is in effect, Levee Districts are
performing high river inspections, no major issues at this
time, monitoring historic sand boils.
Water flowing thru 174 needles at Bonnet Carre enough to
fill the stilling basin.
Six bays are opened on the overbank structure at Old River
(670 cfs)
Predicted stage at Carrollton gage will be 14.3 on 5/19
although river can continue to rise with additional rainfall.
Stage at Carrollton on 5/19/2011 was 17.0.

All gates are operable an there will be no need to perform interim gap
closures.
Levees meet the 1% elevation for this year’s hurricane season. Some levees
that have settled will be rehabilitated.
Fronting protection at pump stations will complete this fall.

investigate a ring levee around I-10 near Laplace.

Features
Hurricane protection in Plaquemines Parish South of Oakville consists of both
federal and non-federal levees. CPRA is providing engineering and construction
inspection assistance.
West bank:
• Enlargement Mississippi River levees from City Price to Venice
• Enlargement of back levees from St. Jude to City Price
• Enlargement of back levees from City Price to Tropical Bend and two 54inch flap-gated culverts
• Enlargement of back levees from Tropical Bend to Fort Jackson and a new
floodgate at Empire
• Enlargement of back levees from Fort Jackson to Venice
East bank:
• Enlargement of back levees from Phoenix to Bohemia and flap-gated
culverts

1. Reviewing USAE plans for Larose floodwall improvements phase 2.
2. Continues to improve and raise levees with in-house forces.

1. Houma Navigational Canal and Bayou Grand Caillou are
operational.
2. Award CDBG project for a one mile levee repair, Pointe-Aux- Chene
connector Project (East side of J-2 levee alignment)
3. Received 404 permit last week for Little Caillou & Grand Caillou.

CPRA will reach to all coastal levee authorities and flood
protection entities by June 1st.
CPRA has backup Emergency Operations Center backup with
the Port of Baton Rouge.
Have updated our Emergency Contract.
Have received emergency operation Manual from Levee
Districts.
Are working on public access for Levee Information
Management System (LIMS) that depicts which gates are open
or closed.
Will work with the Corps and local levee districts to jointly
operate major flood control features this hurricane season,
including Seabrook, IHNC, Caernarvon Sector gate, Western
Closure Complex, Bayou Segnette, Eastern Tie In and Western
Tie In.
