Rule 1.8 - Rink - The trapezoid area behind the goals has been modified slightly (see diagram below). Rule 1.10 - Rink - The hash marks separating the wingers outside the face-off circles has been widened (see diagram below). However, this is being tested during the pre-season games and a decision on whether or not this will be utilized in the regular season will be made following the preseason schedule. This change does NOT appear in the Rule Book. Go to the following website: hitstraining.nhlofficiating.com Login: nhlofficial Password: blackhawks Rule 1-10 - Rink - A dry scrape of the entire ice surface will take place at the conclusion of the third period and prior to the start of overtime in tied games during the regular season. No time needs to go up on the clock for this ice resurfacing and players will remain on their respective benches. Penalized players are to remain in the penalty box. Teams will change ends to start the overtime period. 5:00 goes up on the clock and wait for the OT to start. No “intermission time” is needed. No longer a requirement to announce first 3 shoot-out skaters No more shoot-out forms!!!! We all know that normal breaks occur at the first even-strength, non-icing stoppage after 14:00, 10:00 and 6:00 each period. But if an unexpected delay occurs say at 16:00 (glass breaks), the On-Ice Officials can decide, based on how long they anticipate the delay will be, to go to a commercial break right away. In the past, this unscheduled break would replace the last break of the period (first stoppage after 6:00). From now on, the unscheduled break (at 16:00 in this example) would replace the next scheduled break (the one normally taken at 14:00). Therefore, none of the other scheduled breaks would be affected. Every Off-Ice Official will receive a complimentary subscription to Game Center Live for the 2014-2015 season.
