Speaker 1: December in Israel brings the
celebration called Hanukkah.
Speaker 2: And not just in Israel, for there are
Jewish people all over the world. . .
Speaker 3: in Asia and Europe, South America
and Australia, Africa and here in North
America.
Speaker 4: In December, people of the Jewish
faith dedicate 8 days and 8 nights to
commemorate a miracle that happened way
back in 165 B.C.
Scene 5
(2 of 2)
Speaker 5: Hanukkah commemorates the
rededication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem
after the Jewish victory over the Syrians in 165
B.C., which, take my word for it, is a very long
time ago.
Speaker 6: Judah Maccabee and his soldiers
went to the holy Temple, and were saddened
that many things were missing or broken,
including the golden menorah.
Scene 5
(2 of 2)
Speaker 7: They cleaned and repaired the
Temple, and when they were finished, they
decided to have a big dedication ceremony.
Start music for Miracle of Lights
Speaker 8: For the celebration, the Maccabees
wanted to light the menorah. They looked
everywhere for oil, and found a small flask
that contained only enough oil to light the
menorah for one day.
Scene 5
(2 of 2)
Speaker 9: Miraculously, the oil lasted for 8 days.
This gave them enough time to obtain new oil
to keep the menorah lit.
Speaker 10: Today Jews celebrate Hanukkah for
8 days by lighting candles in a menorah every
night.
Speaker 11: Dedication
Speaker 12: Commemoration.
Speaker 13: Miracles and Light.
Speaker 14: December is the time for Hanukkah.

special time of year all over the world.
Speaker 2: And nowhere is it more special than
right here in good old America!
