Eligibility Requirements
• To be eligible for scholarship consideration, you
must achieve an SAT composite of 1180 (Math
and Critical Reading portions only) or ACT
composite of 26 and attain a cumulative GPA of
3.0 or higher.
• The following table provides some information to
indicate whether or not you think you will be
academically competitive for an AFROTC
scholarship. This is last year’s average select rate

U. S Army ROTC Scholarship

Be a U.S. citizen
Be between the ages of 17 and 26
Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50
Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Score a minimum of 920 on the SAT (math/verbal) or
19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test
scores)
• Meet physical standards
• Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army
on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army
Reserve or Army National Guard)

Your Commitment
• An eight-year service commitment with the
Army.
• Serve full time in the Army for four years and
four years with the Individual Ready Reserve
(IRR).
• Selected Cadets may choose to serve part
time in the Army Reserve or Army National
Guard while pursuing a civilian career

U.S. Citizenship or national
Not less than 17 years old by Sept. 1 of the year starting college and no more than
23 on December 31 of that year
Must not have reached 27th birthday by December 31 of the year in which
graduation and commissioning are anticipated
Applicants with prior military service may be eligible for age adjustments for
amount of time equal to their prior service, on month-by-month basis, for
maximum of 36 months, if they will not reach 30th birthday by December 31 of
the year of graduation and commissioning
High school graduation or equivalency certificate by August 1 of the year of
entrance into four-year NROTC Scholarship program
No moral obligations or personal convictions that prevent conscientious bearing of
arms and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against
all enemies, foreign or domestic or to taking an oath to perform such acts.
Physically qualified by Navy or Marine Corps standards
You must not have any body piercing or tattoos that violate Navy or Marine Corps
policy

and are commissioned

Age
You must be no older than 34 but at least 17 years old. If you are not yet 18, you must have parental consent.
Citizenship
You must be a U.S. citizen or, if you’re a non-citizen, you may join the Navy if you entered the United States on a
permanent residence visa or have an Alien Registration Green Card and have: 1) established a bona fide residence
and 2) established a home of record in the United States.
Family
If you are a single parent, please contact a recruiter for details on how you can enlist in the Navy.
Also, the Navy will normally not allow you to enlist if you have more than two dependents under the age of 18

Financial Obligations
In certain cases, you must prove that you can meet your current financial obligations.
Education
Generally speaking, you must be a high school graduate, have earned a GED or have met other high school
equivalency requirements to enlist in the Navy. For specific qualifying circumstances, contact a recruiter.
Drug/Alcohol Policy
The Navy has a zero tolerance drug/alcohol policy. Early in the enlistment process, you will take two urinalysis
tests. You’ll also be asked questions about prior drug and alcohol use. Answer honestly. If you have questions,
contact a recruiter.
Medical/Legal/Moral Standards
The Navy also applies medical, legal and character standards to your application, including traffic offense history,

• Following are the Basic requirements for becoming a member of
the Coast Guard:
• A U.S. citizen or a Resident Alien.
