Application also requires that the controller remember where parts are stored. Solution : Micro 64 with Ethernet module and QuickPanel 6” display. Benefits : The Micro 64 provided the Ethernet connectivity and 2 axis of motion control. The 32K of registers available provide the OEM plenty of data storage space. The QuickPanel operator interface enables the user to change and view status of the machine and also know where parts are located. The OI also provides Web pages for remote monitoring. The OEM was also able to reduce development since the programming package for the Micro 64 and OI are the same and tags are shared throughout the application. Added Benefit: The portable Flash Memory device allowed the OEM to preprogram multiple setups. The user simply plugs in the module and the new profile is downloaded. Reduced complexity and training cost. ©2010GE Intelligent Platforms All Rights Reserved 26 / Customer Successes VersaMax Micro 28 Customer : Assembly machine inserting light pipes on circuit boards Problem : Relay Replacement, temperature monitoring and Ethernet communication and Operator Interface Solution : 28 point micro, RTD expansion module, VersaMax SE and VersaMax DP Benefits : The 28 point micro has two serial ports so it was easy to have an operator interface and connect to the factory LAN. Another benefit is the micro is a low cost solution for assembly control that enables the micro to control the insertion process and monitor the temperature of the weld to insure quality. The VersaMax DP operator interface enables the user to monitor the machine status and also see production data. The operator can also key in setup data and make moderate changes. The VersaMax SE connects the controller to the factory LAN. This enables production data to be easily uploaded to the production manager. Another benefit is maintenance can easily trouble shoot the machine remotely over Ethernet which speeds up repair time. ©2010GE Intelligent Platforms All Rights Reserved 27 / Customer Successes VersaMax Micro 23 Customer : Vending Machine OEM Problem : Dispense water to gallon and quart jugs. System needs inexpensive operator interface and modem connection for remote monitoring and trouble shooting. Customer also wanted hand held device for customer to trouble shoot. Controller needed to keep track of the number of bottles filled per day. Solution : VersaMax Micro with VersaMax DP operator interface and modem connection. Proficy Logic Developer PDA software (LD PDA) Benefits : The VersaMax micro had the two serial ports required for the operator interface and the modem connection. The large amount of memory available on the micro enabled the user to track the number of bottles filled per day. The operator interface allowed the customer to enter a code into the controller for gallon and quart jugs. It also provided step by step directions to the customer on what to do. The LD PDA allows the user to quickly trouble shoot the vending machine without the need of a PC. OEM saved in training cost and trouble shooting tools. The PDA was also used to commission the machine and eliminating the need of PCs, save thousands of dollars. ©2010GE Intelligent Platforms All Rights Reserved 28 / Summary VersaMax Micro Low End Controller with a Wide Range of Tools and Interfaces Controllers Commissioning • Reference View Tables • Data Monitor • PDA Tools • Low end Nano and Micro • Cost effective control solution Operator Interfaces • Discrete, analog and motion control • Graphical and Text based Operator Interface • Simple to advanced displays with keypad • Preinstalled VersaMax drivers • Advance instruction set Program • Multiple Programming Languages Communications • Ethernet connection • Multiple serial ports with connection flexibility • Multiple protocol support: Serial Read/Write, Modbus Master/Slave, SNP, SRTP, Modbus TCP • Productivity Tools • Integrated Control and Operator Interface • Application migration ©2010GE Intelligent Platforms All Rights Reserved 29 /
