Heathcliff:

• “dirty, ragged, black-haired child”

• he is un-personified, by being called “it” (as if he is not a human being, dehmanized)

• “as dark almost as if it came from the devil” strong biblical reference

• The fact that they cannot understand him is a continuous theme throughput the book in different aspects – literal and metaphorical

• They treat him as if he is a possession/gift
