Sentence combining is:
 Making the sentence smoother
 Easier to understand or clarify
 Putting detailed sentence of two or more short,
choppy sentences


Short sentences are easy to read, but several of
them in a row can become so monotonous that
meaning gets lost.
In other words, it gets you or the reader
BORED.
A BMW screamed around the corner.
The BMW was fire-red.
It screeched to a stop in front of the doors.
The doors led into the school.
The fire-red BMW screamed around the corner
and screeched to a stop in front of the school
doors.
Screaming around the corner, the fire-red
BMW screeched to a stop in front of the school
doors.





Punctuation- combining sentences using punctuation
marks such as dash (-), semicolons(;) and colons (:)
Coordination- combining sentences using conjunction
words such as FANBOYS
Subordination- making one sentence more important
than the other ( one independent and one dependent
clause)
Reduction- reducing sentences into phrases
Apposition-the second expression that is supporting
the first expression


1. Hartford is the capital of Connecticut. It is
the second largest city in the state.
2. Hartford was once known as an industrial
center. It was the home of several
manufacturers. They made firearms,
typewriters, bicycles, and even cars.






