THE ESSAY
The essay is a writing task that all learners must
complete if they are seeking Certification.
Learners must complete an essay to show their
writing skills. The essay must be at least
two
paragraphs long but should not be longer than two
pages.
Learners must write the essay on the same day as
they take the ALS A&E Test . They may write in
English or in Filipino.
THE ESSAY
Essays are assessed using a criterion- referenced approach
and a four – level scoring system.
The scoring system
is as follows:
4 clearly meets the criteria
3 meets the criteria
2 does not meet the criteria
1 clearly does not meet the criteria
You have an important role in preparing learners for the
essay task. There are particular writing skills or criteria
that learners need to demonstrate in their essay writing.
THE ESSAY
Assessors look for the following characteristics:
o A clear main idea which is related to the question
o Supporting ideas which have a clear, logical
relationship to the main idea
o Supporting ideas which have enough quality and
quantity to the main idea clear
o A structure, containing a beginning, middle and
end for the each paragraph and for the essay as a
whole
THE ESSAY
o Accurate spelling, punctuation,
capitalization and sentence formation
Learners need to be given opportunities
during their learning program to develop these
writing skills so that they are prepared for the
essay task. You can help your learners by providing
them with opportunities to develop these specific
skills and by providing feedback about the writing
learners present.

BEACAUSE SOMEONE BELIEVED IN THEM
THERE IS SOMEONE WHO PAID THE PRICE
AND TAUGHT THEM HOW TO BE BACK IN THE RACE
AGAIN
AND GAVE WINGS TO SOAR HIGH
BECAUSE SOMEONE TAUGHT THEM HOW TO DREAM
AND EMBRACED THEIR WHOLE BEING
HE GUIDED THEM FROM UNCHARTED PATH OF
UNCERTAINTY
GAVE LIGHT TO THE DARK
IT TAKES AN INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGER
TO TAP ONE’S FULL POTENTIAL
IT TAKES A HERO
TO CARVE IT TO ONE’S HEART
COMPETITION MAYBE STIFF
OPPORTUNITIES MAYBE RARE
BUT I KNOW FROM WITHIN
THIS TIME THEY CAN WIN
THE NOBLE CAUSE OF TOUCHING LIVES
IS AN HONOR THAT AN INSTRUCTIONAL
MANAGER HAS
SERVES AS A LIGHT POST TO THE
UNCHARTED PATH OF UNCERTAINTY
AND TURN TRIALS TO TRIUMPH
FOR IT JUST TAKES SOMEONE
TO JUST BELIEVE
AND MAKE IT HAPPEN
WE, THE INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGERS
ARE THE HISTORY MAKERS OF OUR
COUNTRY
WE WRITE THE FUTURE
RIGHT IN THE LIVES OF OUR LEARNERS
Thank You
