Fall 2011 Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Workshop IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE TRANSFER CENTER WHAT WE WILL COVER… What is TAG? Which campuses participate in TAG? What are the criteria for meeting the TAG requirements? When do I apply for TAG? How do I complete the TAG application? What do I do after I apply for TAG? WHAT IS TAG? History lesson: It used to be easy to transfer! Not so long ago, you could transfer to a CSU with a 2.0 and a UC with a 2.4 GPA. Due to supply and demand (low supply of funding and lots of students wanting in), GPAs have risen significantly. Students are finding it harder and harder to transfer. We are really lucky to have TAG! Basically, students who meet certain criteria get a guaranteed spot at a UC school, often with a lower GPA requirement than if they didn’t apply for TAG. For example, UC Santa Barbara’s average GPA for admitted transfer students for Fall 2010 was a 3.5 and no one was admitted with less than a 3.2 GPA. The TAG GPA was and still is 3.2. Also, some UCs will offer early admissions notification. WHICH CAMPUSES PARTICIPATE IN TAG? There are 7 participating UC campuses: UC Davis UC Santa Cruz UC Irvine UC San Diego UC Santa Barbara UC Riverside UC Merced UC Los Angeles and UC Berkeley DO NOT participate in TAG Remember – you may only choose one campus to “TAG” into! WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR MEETING TAG REQUIREMENTS? You can find the requirements for each campus at http://uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu/ The Transfer Center also has a handy TAG Matrix you can refer to (light yellow) To be on the safe side, also check the individual UC TAG websites (links are available on the TAG website) Remember that each UC campus has it’s own unique TAG criteria CRITERIA FOR: UC DAVIS http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admissions/tr_ tag.cfm CRITERIA FOR: UC SANTA CRUZ http://admissions.ucsc.edu/apply/transferstudents/tag.html CRITERIA FOR: http://www.admissions.uci.edu/admissions/ta g.html CRITERIA FOR: UC SAN DIEGO http://www.ucsd.edu/prospectivestudents/transfers/prep-programs/tag.html CRITERIA FOR: UC SANTA BARBARA http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/TAGInfo.asp CRITERIA FOR: UC RIVERSIDE http://trc.ucr.edu/transferPaths/Pages/Transfe rAdmissionGuarantee.aspx CRITERIA FOR: UC MERCED http://transfers.ucmerced.edu/2.asp?uc=1&lvl 2=59&contentid=29 WHEN DO I APPLY FOR TAG? To apply for Fall 2012, begin now! You may work on it, save, and go back to it at any time. Be sure to submit your TAG application between September 1st and September 30th. There will be no extensions! HOW DO I COMPLETE THE TAG APPLICATION? Let’s walk through the application … https://uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu/index.cf m Or watch this video: http://www.orangecoastcollege.edu/media/tag _fall_2012_app/tag_fall_2012_app.html WHAT DO I DO AFTER I APPLY FOR TAG? Students will be notified by November 15th with a verification that their TAG has been received. UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz will actually let you know if you have been accepted at this time! The other 5 UCs notify you if you have been accepted when admissions decisions are released to all students in the spring semester. In addition to a TAG application, students will still need to submit a UC application as well as a personal statement between November 1st and November 30th, 2011. Be sure to answer the TAG question on the UC application and mark the campus you have submitted a TAG application to. Be sure to choose the same major on your UC application that you choose on your TAG application or you will void your TAG! When your TAG is approved, fulfill all remaining coursework and GPA requirements in your TAG agreement through spring 2012 so you don’t void your TAG. See your counselor and/or the IVC Transfer Center if you need help or have questions! DID YOU KNOW… TAG is not the only path to UC transfer! If you have determined that you do not meet the TAG criteria, you can still apply to UC in November. Meet with a counselor to determine your best course of action in light of your academic history.
