(For Standard Level (SL) subjects a minimum grade of 4 remains.) UQ Open Day 2009 Recent Developments/Initiatives Scholarships • UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships –valued at $12,000 a year for up to 5 years, awarded automatically to all applicants who achieve at the very top of the OP1/equivalent band • UQ Excellence Scholarships – valued at $6,000 a year for up to 4 years – for OP1/equivalent students only • UQ Merit scholarships – valued at $6,000 for first year of study, for OP1-3 students only • The UQ Excellence and UQ Merit are based on significant leadership and/or community service achievements as well. • In 2011 the Academic Scholarship program will be opened to International students who have completed Years 11-12 in Australia. •The Wotif Scholarship aims to provide financial support to students who demonstrate that their studies will have benefits for them professionally and for the Australian community. The 'Wotif'' scholarships are valued at $6,000 per year for up to four years. UQ Open Day 2009 Recent Developments/Initiatives Global Change Institute A major new international research institute that will address the problems of a rapidly changing world and develop innovative solutions was launched in 2010. It will focus on a world where the biggest challenges of the future are interconnected and of a global scale. Office of Undergraduate Education The office of Undergraduate Education has introduced a UQ Student Travel Grant which may be used to subsidise the cost of your travel expenses if you want to engage in an activity related to your study. Herston Campus Herston officially became a campus in 2010. The University operates within the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Royal Children's Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital and Queensland Radium Institute. UQ Open Day 2009 Recent Developments/Initiatives Gatton Campus The new Vet School facilities include the Veterinary Medical Centre, Veterinary Teaching Laboratories, Clinical Studies Centre and the Veterinary Science Building. In addition, a number of other facilities on the Gatton campus including the library, laboratories and lecture halls have been upgraded. The official opening of the School of Veterinary Science is expected to occur in June, 2010. Ranking The University of Queensland has been named one of the top 50 universities in the world for the fifth year running in the UK's Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings for 2009. UQ is the only Queensland university, and one of only a handful of Australian universities appearing in the top 50. UQ ranked 41st.
