ADMISSIONS GENERAL UNIVERSITY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS REGULAR ADMISSION: High school graduate & English 12 or English 12 First Peoples or Communications 12 with a letter grade of ‘C’ or better Kwantlen will accept the Grade12 English course blended grade (classroom grade & provincial examination grade) or the classroom grade – whichever is higher – for purposes of university and program admission and satisfying course prerequisites ADMISSIONS GENERAL UNIVERSITY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (CONT…) MATURE STUDENT ADMISSION: 19 years of age or older (on the first day of classes) AND Meets Kwantlen’s English Proficiency requirement For information regarding the English proficiency requirement, visit the Academic Calendar: www.kwantlen.ca/calendar ADMISSIONS WHAT IS A SELECTIVE ENTRY PROGRAM? An undergraduate program which has additional program admission requirements, over and above the general University admission requirement. The amount of the deposit will vary depending on the program. Refer to the academic calendar for specific program details: www.kwantlen.ca/calendar ADMISSIONS THE APPLICATION LIFE CYCLE: DOMESTIC APPLICANTS 1. Students apply on-line (www.kwantlen.ca/apply) 2. Applicants will receive a “Hello” letter thanking them for their interest in Kwantlen, and directing them to myKwantlen – the on-line student web portal 3. Applicants still attending high school are provided conditional admission to Open Enrolment programs. Applicants to Limited enrolment programs may be asked to provide additional documentation (interim transcripts/program specific requirements) to determine admissibility by March 31st 4. Registration will begin in June for the Fall 2013 intake. (a registration deposit/program acceptance deposit is required to access the online registration system) 5. Final acceptance is provided to students in high school in mid-August once final high school transcripts with required final marks are received. ADMISSIONS THE APPLICATION LIFE CYCLE: INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS 1. Students apply on-line (www.kwantlen.ca/apply) 2. Applicants will receive a “Hello” letter thanking them for their interest in Kwantlen, and directing them to myKwantlen – the on-line student web portal 3. An acknowledgement letter is sent to each applicant requesting required documentation by a specified deadline, for example interim transcript or program specific requirements. 4. Once admission requirements have been satisfied, an offer of admission is provided requesting a $1,000.00 non-refundable International Deposit. 5. Upon receipt of the International Deposit, an immigration letter is provided to secure a study permit. 6. Registration will begin in June for the Fall 2013 intake. 7. Final acceptance is provided to students in high school in mid-August once final high school transcripts and required final marks are provided. ADMISSIONS REQUIRED ADMISSION DOCUMENTATION Official High School Transcript: • Official transcripts may be requested from the BC Ministry of Education or sent in a school envelope bearing a printed logo, stamp or official school seal. Transcripts may be submitted in person or mailed directly from the institution attended. PSI via the Ministry of Education: • Please complete as soon as available External English Testing: • Applicants are welcome to submit IELTS, TOEFL, or LPI testing results to meet the English Proficiency requirement Internal English Testing: • Applicants are welcome to write Kwantlen’s in-house English Placement test if they feel that they may not meet the English requirement. ADMISSIONS Interim Transcripts Interim high school transcripts may be requested for some programs and can be submitted in person or mailed in. As there is a March 31st submission deadline for limited enrolment we must receive an official paper interim transcript. Kwantlen will automatically receive interim transcripts in mid-May for all students that have signed the PSI selection form through the Ministry of Education’s website. ADMISSIONS IB/AP Courses Kwantlen awards undergraduate transfer credit for IB and AP courses upon receipt of an official IB/College Board transcript. Undergraduate articulations are reviewed annually for all IB/AP courses. For additional information regarding IB/AP courses, refer to the Transfer Credit web page www.kwantlen.ca/transfercredit If students wish to forgo transfer credit for IB/AP courses, they may decline transfer by completing the Decline of Transfer credit form found on the transfer credit webpage. ADMISSIONS NEWEST KWANTLEN PROGRAMS: • Bachelor of Design, Product Design (soft goods) • Post Baccalaureate in Technical Apparel Design (first intake Spring 2014) this program requires a design related degree. • Bachelor of Music in Musical Arts • Bachelor of Science, Major in Biology • Bachelor of Science, Major in Health Science ADMISSIONS myKwantlen.ca Student Web Portal The online student portal allows students to keep updated on the following: • application status, campus announcements, access their Kwantlen email account and course websites. Via the Online Self-Service (located in myKwantlen), students complete the following: • registration, pay registration fees and tuition, and maintain personal information. The student’s myKwantlen e-mail is the primary method of communication between the university and the student. It is imperative they check this e-mail frequently. ADMISSIONS REGISTRATION BASICS Students that have applied for the Fall intake by the May 21st application deadline will receive a registration postcard by mail in the beginning of June. This postcard includes information on when to check for their registration date and paying fees online. Students should refer to the timetable in the Registration Guide to plan their courses. Students applying during the extended application period will receive registration information in their “Hello” letter. Students should make sure to register on their assigned date and time as seats may be limited. Students now have the option of putting themselves onto a waitlist for courses that may be full. The Registration Guide and Timetable is available at: www.kwantlen.ca/registration ADMISSIONS FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIPOP) Kwantlen is unable to release any information about a student to a third party, including parents or teachers, without permission from the student. If a student wishes a third party to act on his/her behalf for items such as admission, registration or tuition payments, they will need to complete a waiver naming that person. Waivers may be obtained at any of our Student Enrolment Services offices or online: www.kwantlen.ca/admission/adm-forms ADMISSIONS OFFICE OF NEW STUDENT PROGRAMS (ONSP) The Office of New Students is available to both Domestic and International students who are interested in applying to Kwantlen. ONSP arranges campus tours, provides new student advising and actively recruits new applicants to Kwantlen. ADMISSIONS WORKING AS A TEAM TO HELP OUR STUDENTS Kwantlen appreciates the effort provided by all counselors and welcomes the opportunity to continue working together for our students.
