INTRODUCTION Malaysian Export Academy was registered in October 2007, to take over the activities of The Exporters Club of Malaysia specifically the International Trade Training & Education. The Club has been active in International Trade Training since the year 2000. The Academy has been approved as a Class A training provider under the Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia. In this respect, almost all its trade training programmes are fully subsidized by the said Ministry. ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE Chairman Board of Director s Board of Advisers General Manager (Marketing) 11 (Eleven) Marketing Managers & Executive General Manager (Operation) The Organisational Structure of the Academy includes the Board of Directors, Board of Advisors, the Management Team and the Trainers. The Board of Directors comprised of four individual shareholders and is headed by the Chairman, Abdul Kabur Ibrahim, who is also the Founder and the Chief Executive Officer of the Management Team. The Board of Advisors comprised of four members and has been appointed to assist and advise the Management team. The Management Team which is headed by the Chief Executive Officer includes 2 General Managers, 11 Marketing and Business Development Executives, 3 Operational Executives, an Accountant and 3 Supporting Staff. Accountant The company also employs 3 full time trainers and more than 10 part time and 3 Operation Executives freelance trainers. Whilst working with the government he has served as the Malaysian Trade Commissioner in Belgium and South Africa under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Currently he is a director of a number of companies in Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia and United Kingdom. He is also the President of the Malaysian Exporters Association and the Malaysian Training Providers Association. He has also served as a consultant to the Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council for the African continent and also a number of Malaysian Multinational companies. Whilst with the government, he has served in various capacities including as the Chief Executive of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and the Deputy-Secretary General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. The Academy in association with the Malaysian Institute of Export and International Trade is in the process of appointing honorary fellows and members. The modules are developed by the Academy in collaboration with the trainers. The target participants are mainly business executives, government officials, academicians and students. In most cases, the fees are claimable under the Human Resources Development Fund. The methodology is classroom discussions, role play, presentations, case studies, visits and exercises. Participants who have completed the course will be given a Certificate of Attendance issued by the Malaysian Export Academy. Part timers are allowed to attend weekend classes. An Assessment Test will be given for 3 hours at the end of the last day and a Professional Certificate will be given by the Malaysian Institute of Export and International Trade to those who have passed the test. Discussions are also ongoing to offer these programmes as an added training for undergraduate students in local universities such as University of Kuala Lumpur, Binary University and Manipal International University. Certified Export Professional (CEP) The Academy will be offering the Certified Export Professional (CEP), which will have three months of coursework, three months Internship and one month for Simulation, A Case Study and Participation in a Trade Exhibition or Mission. This will be offered on full time basis to fresh graduates and working adults and as part time basis (weekend classes) for working adults only who have some basic experience in exporting. Part timers need not attend the three months internship. This course will also be offered on a blended learning basis i.e online with a weekend tutorial once in every month. Flexibility will be given to complete this course within a period of one year. If we could get the accreditation of an overseas Institution, it is possible that the course will be fully subsidized by the government with a fix monthly allowances for the students. Executive MBA in International Trade The Academy in collaboration with AEU University of Malaysia is developing the Executive MBA in International Trade. It will be a one year programme, which will be offered on a blended learning basis – both e-learning and weekend tutorials. A week training on selected subjects in an International Trade Training Institution is also being considered for this programme. In this regards, we would be looking at collaborating with some of the members of IATTO. The entry level will be a business degree or those who have obtained the CEP. One such project is the India ASEAN Business Forum on 20 & 21 November 2013 in Kolkatta, India.
