16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes,
seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A
proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that
shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that
devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in
running to evil, 19 A false witness who
speaks lies, And one who sows discord
among brethren.

Walking With the Wise:
• The x and x+1 formula does not suggest an
exhaustive list it is a literary device that
parallels the first in the set and the last
item is the summation, culmination or
perfection of the list.

Yes, seven are an abomination to
Him: 17 A proud look,
• ‘enayim ramot – literally
“haughty eyes” and refers to
arrogant ambition and is also
used to describe the Assyrians
(Isa. 10:12-14) and the proud
King (Daniel 11:12).
• 1 Peter 5:5-God resists the
proud
• Psalm 138:6-God knows the
proud from afar

of false prophets

• In view is the sin of perjury
whereby a person who has
access to the truth
purposefully lies bringing hurt
and consequence to an
innocent party
• Proverbs 19:5 “A false witness

• Proverbs 19:9 “…will perish”

This 7th “abominable” sin is the
culmination of the previous 6
hated sins. The contentious
person who causes discord puts
himself in dire straights!
