5 Eph. 6:10-12; Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places Eph 6:13-15; Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace Eph 6:16-17; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take up the helmet of salvation… 2Cor. 10:3-5; For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ We are engaged in a conflict over our souls. We are under attack by an enemy who wants to destroy us. The area he is attacking is OUR MINDS! Before he can do any damage to our bodies, families, finances, etc., he must attack our minds. Putting on the Helmet of Salvation means… HAVING A RENEWED MIND • John 8:32; …you shall know the truth and the • • truth shall set you free Eph. 4:23; …and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, Rom 12:2; …do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by renewing of your mind A “Renewed Mind” is… • A mind that is being made new every day by the • Word of God A mind that no longer passively succumbs to fear and torment, but has been armed with truth, captures the enemy’s lies and casts them down Putting on the Helmet of Salvation means… HAVING A “SET” MIND (or a proper mindset) • Php. 2:5; Let this mind be in you which was also • • in Christ Jesus… Col. 3:2; Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth… Gal 5:16; I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. The proper “Mindset” • Does it contradict God’s Word? (Ps. 119:105) • Does it lower God as a priority? (Matt. 6:33) • Is it going to drag me down? (Heb. 12:1) • Is it of the world? (1 John 2:15) • Will it damage my testimony? (Phil. 2:15) • Is it a stumbling block? (1 Cor. 8:13) • Does it trouble my authorities? (Heb. 13:17) Putting on the Helmet of Salvation means… HAVING A SOBER MIND • 1Pet. 1:13; Therefore gird up the loins of your • • • mind, be sober… 1Pet. 5:8; be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Titus 2:6; Young men be sober-minded, 1 Timothy 3:2 & Titus 1:8 To be “sober” means you are not under the influence of a foreign substance. Once the devil realizes he can’t penetrate your SET-MIND, and he can’t corrupt your RENEWED MIND, he will try to influence you (open your mind) with subtle distractions. Colossians 2:8; Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. Put on the Helmet of Salvation… • A Renewed Mind – capturing the enemy’s lies • • by the Word of God and casting them down A Set Mind (Mindset) – brings every decision, deed, action back to the Word of God A Sober Mind – maintaining a serious focus and a biblical worldview that rejects the subtle influences of worldly philosophy 5
