The GlaxoSmithKline Residential Chemistry Training Experience (2011) In recognition of 2011 being the International Year of Chemistry, we at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) have adapted our highly successful Residential Chemistry Training Experience, in this its 8th year. Applications are invited from chemistry undergraduates to participate in this unique experience. The training experience is one approach that GSK uses to encourage high calibre chemists from a variety of backgrounds to apply for positions in the pharmaceutical industry. This year we will also be incorporating the objectives of the International Year of Chemistry, namely are to increase the public appreciation of chemistry in meeting world needs, to encourage interest in chemistry among young people, and to generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry. If you would like to gain an insight into the pharmaceutical industry and be part of this interactive programme, you should be: • A chemistry undergraduate with an interest in analytical, computational or synthetic chemistry. • About to enter your final year of study. Applications are particularly invited from ethnic minority undergraduates, mature students who have elected to study chemistry at a later stage in their career or chemistry graduates who have taken a career break or moved into another area of work/business and wish to return to a career in chemistry in the pharmaceutical industry. Please complete and return an application form no later than 10th June 2011 to: If you prefer, you may send a completed application electronically. To do this, email uzy55557@gsk.com for an application form. -“I particularly enjoyed the reallife laboratory work” “The skills learned around CV writing, preparing for interviews and presentations are invaluable” “This course has helped me make up my mind about the career I wish to pursue” Chemistry Training RCTE8 Administrator Respiratory Medicinal Chemistry Department Medicines Research Centre GlaxoSmithKline Stevenage Herts SG1 2NY Comments from previous Participants Residential This programme will be held at the GSK Medicines Research Centre in Stevenage, Hertfordshire on 11th - 16th September 2011.
