MPL award Wining in conjunction with
Lancashire Evening Post
The restoration of a historic Lancaster building has scooped
a top award.
Essential repair and conservation work has been carried out
on the Ashton Hall ceiling over the past year. Traditional
techniques were conducted by Melville Plasterers Ltd which
brought the ceiling and its painted heraldic crests back to its
former glory.
Now the work has won nationwide recognition with the
British Gypsum Trophy, which is awarded to projects which
have excelled in the plastering world.
The project has also been automatically entered in the SaintGobain Gyproc Trophy to compete against other countries.
Graham Cox, head of property services for Lancaster City
Council, said: "Ashton Hall is part of the Lancaster Town Hall
building having been funded by Lord Ashton and the city
council is proud to be its custodian. As with any building it
needs a certain degree of tender loving care to ensure its
survival and this restoration work will ensure it can continue
to be enjoyed for years to come."
Stuart Melville, of Melville Plasterers, added: "We are
obviously very pleased."
