Essential repair and conservation work has been carried out on the Ashton Hall ceiling over the past year. Traditional techniques were conducted by Melville Plasterers Ltd which brought the ceiling and its painted heraldic crests back to its former glory. Now the work has won nationwide recognition with the British Gypsum Trophy, which is awarded to projects which have excelled in the plastering world. The project has also been automatically entered in the SaintGobain Gyproc Trophy to compete against other countries. Graham Cox, head of property services for Lancaster City Council, said: "Ashton Hall is part of the Lancaster Town Hall building having been funded by Lord Ashton and the city council is proud to be its custodian.
