Pope Francis was born on the 17th of December 1936. His full name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio and he can speak Spanish, Italian and German. He was born in Buenos Aires in Argentina but his parents were born in Italy. He has 4 brothers and sisters. His dad’s name is Mario and he worked as a railway worker. His mum’s name is Regina and was a housewife so she worked at home. When Pope Francis was a teenager he had a lung removed because one of his lungs had an infection. Pope Francis received master degree in Chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires. He also got a degree in Philosophy from the Colegio Maximo San Jose. Pope Francis taught the some people literature and psychology at the college in Santa Fe. He taught at that college. Pope Francis is the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. He became Pope on the 13th of March 2013. in 1998 he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires (Argentina.) He was Cardinal in 2001.He was the first pope to be from Latin American and he is the first non-European. He went in a seminary of Buenos Aires and was a member of the Society of Jesus. Pope Francis became a priest on the 13th of December 1969. On the 27th of June 1992 he become a bishop. He lived in a small apartment and he used public transport to get to work. The first words he said as a pope were “Brothers and sisters good evening”. Barack Obama’s statement was “As a champion of the poor and the most vulnerable among us he care for the message of love and compassion that has inspired the world for more than 2000 years than each other we see the face of God”.
