PEOPLE MENTIONED IN
THE QURAN
BY H ********
INFORMATION
• This presentation will
tell you about different
people that we don’t
know much about.
• They are mentioned in the
Quran
Ashab Al-Ayka
Ashab Al-Ayka means people of the wood. AlAyka was a town or large stretch of forest
land. It seems that the People of the Wood is the
other name of the People of Madyan or a group
of people living in there neighbourhood. The
Prophet Shuayb was sent to them. They were
wrongdoers and were, therefore, destroyed by
Allah.
Ashab Al-Hijr
Ashab Al-Hijr means the people of the rocky land.
There is a rocky tract called Jabal Hijr , about 150
miles north of Madinah, south of the Oasis of Tayma.
This was the country of the Thamud. They were
wrongdoers who rejected the teachings of the
messengers. The Prophet Salih was sent to them.
And verily, the dwellers of AlHijr (the rocky tract) denied
the Messengers. (Al-Hijr 15:80)
Ashab Al-Qarya
Ashab Al-Qarya means People of the Village. This village
is believed to be Antakya in Turkey, the former capital of
Syria under the Romans . Three messengers were sent to
them-Sadiq , Saduq and Shalum were sent to them. But the
people of the village did not listen to them and asked them
to go away. They even stoned to death a man, who
answered the call of the prophet. Allah was pleased with
him and called him one of the righteous.
It was said (to him when the disbelievers
killed him): "Enter Paradise." He said:
"Would that my people knew! (Ya-Sin
36:26)
"That my Lord (Allah) has forgiven
me, and made me of the honoured
ones!" (Ya-Sin 36:27)
Ashab Ar-Rass
Ashab Ar -Rass means the People of the Well. Ashab Ar –
Rass were based in Madyan. In the district of Al- Qasim of
Middle Najid, tere was a town called Ar - Rass, which had
many wells. It was situated between Makkah and Basra.
The People of Rass may have been the people of Prophet
Shuayb. They not only refused to listen to the message of
their prophet, but they even threw him into a well. They
were completely destroyed because of their sins
"He is only a man who has
invented a lie against
Allâh, but we are not
going to believe in him."
(Al-Mu'minun 23:38)
Sahib Al-Jannatayn
Sahib Al-Jannatayn were the owners of gardens.
Of them one was rich and the other was poor.
The rich man had two big gardens which were full of fruits and he
thought he would have them forever.
He did not think that all the things he had were gifts from Allah.
He did not believe that the hour of judgment would come.
The next day his gardens were completely destroyed by a
rainstorm. He realised his mistake and cried for forgiveness from
Allah.
And put forward to them the example
of two men; unto one of them We had
given two gardens of grapes, and We
had surrounded both with date-palms;
and had put between them green crops
(cultivated fields etc.). (Al-Kahf
18:32)
Shaman
• He was a secret believer in the Prophet Musa in the
Firawn household
• Firawn and his people planned to kill the Prophet Musa
after he had preached to them
• Shaman argued with them about their plan to kill the
Prophet Musa
• Some people even said Shaman might have been the same
person to advise Prophet Musa to leave Egypt after
accidentally killing an Egyptian
And there came a man running, from the
farthest end of the city. He said: "O Musa
(Moses)! Verily, the chiefs are taking
counsel together about you, to kill you, so
escape. Truly, I am to you of those who give
sincere advice." (Al-Qasas 28:20)
Tubba
• The people of Tubba were mentioned in the
Quran twice
Tubba was a believer, but his people were
wrongdoers hence they were destroyed
• Their earliest religion was Sabiasim
• Later they practiced Judaism and Christianity
Are they better or the people of Tubba and
those before them? We destroyed them because
they were indeed Mujrimun (disbelievers,
polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). (Ad-Dukhan
44:37)
