Sacred Heart Parish Family $2,865.00 2 303 Paris Street, East Boston, MA 02128 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 20, 2014 From the Deacon’s Desk: A note from Fr. Wayne . . . Many times people ask me a similar question; namely, What is Opus Dei? The best answer is that Opus Dei is part of the Catholic Church. The name is Latin for “Work of God”. Opus Dei’s mission is to spread the Christian message that every person is called to holiness and that every honest work can be sanctified. In other words, Opus Dei shares a simple yet profound message: We are called to be saints! You may ask: “Is that really possible? Can I be a saint?” The short answer is yes! You are called and you can become a saint! Opus Dei offers support and guidance to help all those who want, whether or not they are members, to aim at holiness in their ordinary lives, especially through their everyday work. People of all kinds belong to Opus Dei: priests and lay people, men and women, young and old, married and single, of every occupation and social situation. Most members are married and have families – these are called supernumeraries. Some members (numeraries and associates) make a commitment to celibacy, and so generally have more time and availability to dedicate to the various activities promoted by Opus Dei. Some celibate men are ordained as priests, who make up roughly 2% of the membership. There are currently about 85,000 members of Opus Dei worldwide. Sacred Heart Eucharistic Society Mark your calendar for Friday, August 8th at 6:30 p.m. HOLY HOUR for LIFE with the ROSARY for LIFE In recent weeks, the United States Supreme Court has issued two rulings favorable to the Gospel of Life; the first was the Hobby Lobby decision – that no longer requires Christian owned companies to offer coverage for abortions. The second ending the 35 foot barrier between Pro-life Advocates and abortion clinics – allowing a greater distribution of pro-life materials and counseling. Our prayers are stilled needed! Please join us! Immediately following the Holy Hour with the Rosary, the Sacred Heart Eucharistic Society will serve coffee and something sweet. Hope to see you there. Please join us Saturday morning after the Mass at 8:00 a.m. for Eucharistic Adoration. During Adoration, we pray the Rosary, have confession, and spend some time with the Lord. An Evening Under the Stars Forgive up to what point? by Francisco Ugarte Please join us on Friday, August 22nd at 7:00 p.m. For a Cocktail ~ Lawn Party. The all-embracing outreach of forgiveness extends also to those that are hardest to forgive: those suffered by the people we love most. In these cases, our emotions tell us that to forgive the guilty party is to betray our affection for the victim. But we must not let ourselves be led by emotion. We must try to distinguish between our affection for the beloved person and our forgiveness of the aggressor, which rests upon different, compelling grounds. As much as possible we will try to make love concrete by seeking the good of both parties: the one who has suffered the offense, whom we love naturally, through the help and affection that are due him or her; and the one who has inflicted injury through corrective action that will encourage him to repent and reform. Sacred Heart Parish Family XVI TEMPO ORDINARIO Tickets are now available after Mass or at the rectory. Each ticket is $25.00 There will be four Tasting Stations with hot and cold Hor d’oeuvres and a Cash Bar. The Cocktail Party will take place on the back Lawn of the Church. All proceeds to benefit Sacred Heart Parish. Gloria a Te, O’ Signore. C’è chi prega, Signor, vieni a noi C’è chi soffre, Signor, vieni a noi C’è chi spera, Signor, vieni a noi O Signore, vieni a noi. Ave Maria . . . V. Eccomi, sono la serva del Signore. R. Si compia in me la tua parola. Ave Maria . . . Rit.
