FOURTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME - YEAR A – JULY 6, 2014 NEXT BULLETIN ON SUNDAY AUGUST 10TH BULLETIN PUBLICATION – IL BOLLETTINO We are in the summer season. Some of our parishioners will be taking advantage of the warm weather and leave for their cottages or on vacations. Subsequently, we realize that the weekly publication of the bulletin is not necessary during these summer months. After this current bulletin of July 6th, our next bulletin will be published on August 10th. We will resume to the weekly publishing of the bulletin starting September 7th, 2013. Please note that nothing else has changed -- Mass times and parish office hours remain the same. Ci troviamo in pieno estate. CATHOLIC CEMETERIES ANNUAL MASS Catholic Cemeteries & Funeral Services – Archdiocese of Toronto wishes to invite all families within the Archdiocese of Toronto to participate in the Annual Mass for the Faithful Departed on Wednesday August 13th, 2014 at 7 pm. Masses throughout the Greater Toronto Area will take place for the souls of the deceased buried at our Catholic Cemeteries. Please refer to the posters on our Bulletin Board for the Cemetery locations and Celebrants for this year’s Annual Mass or go to: http://bit.ly/FaithfulDeparted In the event of rain, Mass will be held in the mausoleum at Assumption, Holy Cross, Resurrection and Queen of Heaven Cemeteries. Christ the King Cemetery will celebrate Mass on site in the Reception Centre. Mount Hope Cemetery to St Monica’s Parish, 44 Broadway Ave, Toronto. PARISH CELEBRATION OF ST COSMAS AND DAMIAN, ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI, ST MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL, ST PADRE PIO ______________________________________________________________________________________________ We are beginning to plan our traditional autumn procession. The calendar date for this event will be Sunday Sept 21st. V’invitiamo a prenotare sin d’adesso la date di domenica 22 settembre. Così, insieme celebreremo la festa dei nostri santi protettori. Passate la parola. AROUND THE PARISH – IN PARROCCHIA As the summer progresses, we are still moving ahead with work in the parish. We apologize for the dust that you find on the benches when you come in. It seems that as soon as we try to clean it away, it just settles in all over again. In order to get work done, one always expects a certain amount of dust to be around. Anyone keeping a close eye on things will notice that the trades are in and out with deliveries and all sorts of goings on. The dust in the church comes from the work going on for the accessible washroom that will be available in the north west corner of the church. Just so you are aware, that facility will not be available until the end of the year when the inspectors will okay the work. If you have a keen ear, you will also notice that the organ has had some more work done to it. There is much more to go in order to return it to pristine condition but we are only doing a little at a time and we are a little careful because of the effects that construction will have on the instrument. As a matter of fact you will soon see it covered again because the dust is causing it some distress – but it will still be used to accompany our worship. You might also be aware that we will soon be preparing for the 100th Anniversary of our parish church building – the parish itself was erected earlier and our present site is the second location of St Francis Parish. We will be carrying out some preparations to mark the laying of the cornerstone on September 27th 1914 - think about it, St Francis was begun just as the First World War was getting under way: Lord make me an instrument of your Peace! Although there will be different celebrations to accompany our remembrance of the events with which our present edifice came onto the landscape, our newly formed Parish Council will be taking an active role in planning and making known these events. An initial project was to address the state of our formal candlesticks, processional cross and Paschal Candle stand. We extend a thank you to all those who contributed for the Centenary Candlesticks. A date for their formal blessing and initiation will be announced in the near future. XIV DOMENICA IN TEMPO ORDINARIO - ANNO A – 6 LUGLIO 2014 We have been talking about our Parish Council that is in its early stages. Now we can also talk about our Parish Finance Council. This week we will be meeting with Mr James Milway, the Chancellor of Temporal Affairs for the Archdiocese of Toronto. The topics of discussion will include the current work underway at St Francis and for this reason Carol Bragagnolo and Mary Ellen Lynch will also be present. The discussions with Mr Milway and the discussions with our newly forming Parish Finance Council will be examining The Pastoral Plan that was launched by the Archdiocese a little while ago. You will begin to hear more about this when we start publishing weekly bulletins again in September. Mr Millway will speak about the Captial Campaign that will be fuelling the Pastoral Plan and how we can work out a joint goal that will also help us to begin to reduce the debt that we are incurring with the renovation projects here in the parish. I want to take this opportunity to mention that we are expecting a guest priest to join us, once all the permissions have been arranged. He is Don (Fr) Flavio Pace who works in the Congregation for the Oriental Churches in Rome. He originally hails from Milan and he will be joining us for a month shortly after mid July. He is looking to improve his command of English. I also want to mention that I continue to make plans for my mini sabbatical beginning at the end of August and lasting until the first days of December. Fr Conrad will likely be the acting administrator in my absence (awaiting formal approval) and Fr Michael D’Cruz will be joining him in residence. You have met Fr Michael at the different Masses he has celebrated here since my arrival two years ago – where is the time going? Before leaving on sabbatical I hope to have worked with others to set up our schedule for the months ahead, including dates for parents’ meetings for our First Holy Communion and Confirmation Candidates. Check our bulletins and our website in early September and pass the word around.
