Press Release
THE SOLO EXHIBITION OF NICO VASCELLARI marks the opening in Brussels of
the activities of OFFICINA, a Cultural Association aimed at promoting contemporary
art by exhibitions, conferences and other events, publications and scientific
projects. The art shows will consist of original projects conceived specifically for the
OFFICINA exhibition space, an hotel de maitre of 1906 in a central area of Brussels,
and will differ in terms of duration and nature of the art work (visual art, sound art,
installations, performances etc).
Nico VASCELLARI is a most interesting young artist, winner of important awards such
as the New York award, the Premio per la Giovane Arte Italiana and the Rome Price,
with a multiplicity of experiences in Italy and abroad, in particular in the US, and both
a strong and multifaceted personality.

While the focus of his research is a reflection on the individual against his historic
and social background, his means of expression vary from drawing and collage to
sculpture, from installation (often combined with sound) to performance ( personal
performances as well as in collaboration with Marina Abramovic’),and go as far as
theatre and music. He is the founder and front man both of a post punk and of a
pseudo-brazilian group. He is himself the incarnation of the dropping of boundaries
between forms of art.
His diversity of tonalities is also striking, showing sometimes strengh and power,
sometimes tenderness and compassion with the most vulnerable, and often a deep,
almost sacred respect for nature.
Fondazione Remotti, Camogli (2011).

While entirely contemporary in his manifestations, Vascellari shows in his works a
surprising dialogue at distance with major personalities of the 20th century.
