Titus 1:5-9 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 9He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. 4/13/2015 First Church of Christ Elder Notes 12 * Scripture References Acts 20:17-18, 28-31 17Now from Miletus he (Paul) sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him. 18And when they came to him, he said to them: 28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. 29I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish everyone with tears. 1 Peter 5:1-4 1So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 4/13/2015 First Church of Christ Elder Notes 13 Deacons Will Continue All Activities Defined in July 2011 Overview • Baptisms • Caring Ministries Involvement • Deacon Emeriti Communication and Contact Updates • Communion & Extended Communion • Deacon-in-the-Box • Deacon Manual Updates • Funerals/Memorial Services • Good Samaritan Fund Committee • New Member Interviews (may share this with Elders) • New Member Commitment Team • Church Growth Team • Reviews membership rosters (may share this with Elders) • Notes for Pastor Coordinator • Participation in Worship Services • Secretary for Deacons Meetings • Special Projects Team • Special Service Coordinators • Ushering for Christmas Eve and Easter • Wednesday Night Services (Advent and Lent) Process Notes on Initial Elder Selection Process Elder subcommittee to develop nomination form.
