•
Dave Andreychuk was born on September 29th, 1963 in
Hamilton, Ontario and is the son to Julian and Roz Andreychuk
•
At a young age, Dave showed his love for hockey by often
eating his dinner on the front steps so he could get back to the
hockey game taking place on the outdoor rink across the street
•
His parents were both steel workers and had to scratch and
claw for everything they had but luckily for Dave, there was an
outdoor rink right across the street where he would go after
school and play hockey
The Formative Years
•
Dave was raised in a devout Catholic household
•
At one time, his mother thought he had a vocation to be a priest
•
Dave attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary and St. Jean
Brebeuf Catholic High School
•
Unlike many children today, he did not start playing organized
hockey at a very young age
•
At the age of 8–9, Dave was one of the smallest kids on the
team but when he was 12-13, he became tall and lanky
•
Although Dave was not a fast skater or the best player, he had a
great work ethic and loved the game of hockey

As a teenager, Dave enjoyed working part-time at a local
veterinary clinic
•
During his formative years, he also played baseball,
football and lacrosse
•
At the age of 16, Dave was selected in the 5th round by
the Oshawa Generals of the O.H.L.
•
Dave did not have high expectations when he packed his
hockey equipment for the tryouts in Oshawa
•
Thinking that he would be away for the weekend, Dave
told the veterinarian that he would see him on Monday
Life as a Major Jr. A Player in the O.H.L.
•
Soon after his arrival in Oshawa during the Fall of 1980,
Dave underwent a major change in mindset
•
Dave was no longer just satisfied to make the team
•
He wanted to be the best player on the team
•
Dave scored 58 goals during the 1981-82 season
•
He was selected as one of Canada’s best junior players and
played internationally at the World Junior Tournament
•
Dave scored 6 goals in 7 games, and the Canadian Junior
hockey team won the bronze medal in 1982-83
Drafted by Buffalo in the 1st Round
•
In 1982, Dave was a first round draft choice of the
Buffalo Sabres
•
Being drafted by a team so close to home was ideal for
Dave as a young 18-year old
•
Although Dave was nervous at training camp, he scored 4
goals in an intra squad game
•
Dave scored a goal in his very first N.H.L. game
•
He scored 38 goals during his rookie season
•
It did not take long for Dave to establish himself as a
natural goal scorer with soft hands in front of the net

Dave enjoyed 10 productive seasons with the Buffalo
Sabres
In a multi-player deal, he was traded even closer to home
in Toronto during the 1992-93
Playing on the power play with Doug Gilmour and Wendel
Clark, Dave broke Frank Mahovlich’s team record by
scoring 53 goals
In 1995-96, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils
As a free agent, Dave signed with the Boston Bruins in
1999-2000
He was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 2000
2000-01, Dave had a brief stint back in Buffalo
Dave signed as a free agent and capped his career with
the Stanley Cup with Tampa, 2001-2006

• The Tampa Bay Lightning had solid
goaltending and a nucleus of three talented,
young snipers: Vincent Lecavalier, Marty St.
Louie and Brad Richards
• Dave brought needed leadership and direction
to this young team
• As team captain, he always led by example on
and off the ice
• Dave introduced a unique team ritual where
players were fined if they stepped on the team
logo in the dressing room
• This helped create heightened focus and
respect
