Association of California Life and Health Insurance Companies (ACLHIC) Resolution In Recognition of STEVE GARRETT Stephen P. “Steve” Garrett of Oklahoma City passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013. Steve was born in Granite, Oklahoma on September 1, 1944 to James and Nedra Garrett. Steve is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Business and the Oklahoma City University School of Law. For over 40 years, Steve has specialized in life and health insurance, having served as Chief Examiner and Assistant Commissioner for the Oklahoma Insurance Department, Counsel for the Insurance Company of North America, and for the last 32 years, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for American Fidelity Corporation. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Garrett; their three children and families: William Braden Garrett, his wife Betty Jane Harvey Garrett, their daughter Abigail Mae Garrett and their son Wilson Blakely Garrett; Lizanne Garrett Reger, her husband Joseph Clark Reger and their son James Clark Reger; Marion Garrett Parke, her husband David Wilkin Parke III and their son David Wilkin Parke IV; and his father The Honorable James Paul Garrett. _____________________________________________________________________________ WHEREAS Steve was a beloved part of ACLHIC and the ACLHIC family of companies and staff while representing the American Fidelity Assurance Company; and WHEREAS Steve served with distinction on countless industry committees and task forces dealing with issues of great importance to the life insurance industry, and made numerous contributions to ACLHIC; and WHEREAS Steve perfected the art of working towards solutions on difficult and contentious industry issues with allies and opponents, all to the benefit of his company, ACLHIC and his peers; and WHEREAS Steve gave of himself to meet with ACLHIC staff at industry meetings at NAIC meetings and in various parts of the country; at all times speaking of his love for his genetic family and family at American Fidelity; and WHEREAS Steve will be missed by all those who had the benefit of working with him during his long and distinguished career; NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that Steve Garrett be commended in every respect for his service and friendship to his beloved industry and industry colleagues; and that the Board of ACLHIC adjourn in his memory on this, the 4th day of December 2013.
