WSC 2016 December 11 – 14, 2016 Simulating Complex Service Systems • • • • • • Date: Dec. 11-14, 2016 Location: Arlington, VA Hotel: Crystal Gateway Marriott Meeting Space: Crystal Gateway Marriott Theme: TBD Special features: Conference is located just across the river from the National Mall, and just a few blocks from the Pentagon. The hotel is connected via underground passage to the Metro and the Crystal City Shops. Donated by Virginia to the United States in 1801 and originally part of Washington, DC, Arlington has served as the headquarters to many governmental department and agencies. The land of Arlington completed the “square” of Washington, DC. (It is labeled as Alexandria County in the animated picture below) It was retroceded back to Virginia in 1846 because the residents felt like they had no voice. They were no longer a part of Virginia, and didn’t feel like a part of Washington. Yet due to its proximity to the National Mall, today Arlington has the feel of Washington DC. The Washington, DC/Arlington area features a number of attractions. Notable Places: Arlington National Cemetery The Pentagon – Headquarters of the US Department of Defense The White House National Mall (partial list) National Air and Space Museum Washington Monument Lincoln Memorial Museum of Natural History Smithsonian Institution Building Dupont Circle Georgetown University Whitehouse Hotel is located less than 1 mile from Reagan International yet does not have the feel of a hotel right next to an airport. While not in Washington DC, Central, it is only about 2 miles from the National Mall, and almost the same exact distance from the National Mall as the next closest option. The hotel is less than a mile from the Pentagon and the Pentagon Memorial. The hotel has direct access to the metro line via underground passage. The hotel is connected to the Crystal City Shops via underground passage. The Crystal City Shops have numerous trendy shops and a very large variety of food options for all price levels.
