Athena
Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom, war, handicrafts, arts, skill, industry & justice. She
was born out of her father’s head fully grown. She possesses the aegis, a bright-edged
thundercloud, and her attribute is the owl. Athena’s companion was the goddess of Victory,
Nike.
Athena and Poseidon once competed to claim a Greek city, and the one who could give the
finest gift was considered the winner. Having mounted the acropolis, Poseidon struck the
ground with his trident, and a spring welled up, but it contained the salty water of the sea.
Athena gifted an olive tree, which gave the people food, oil and wood. She won the contest
and named the city, Athens. She was also the patron of architects & sculptors and the
inventor of numbers & mathematics.
