SMART Goal for Grade 11 Student:
Specific: The student will enhance their participation in class discussions by actively contributing at least three times per class,
minimizing disruptive noise by using appropriate volume and tone. They will also develop a structured note-taking system to ensure
all class notes are organized and readily available for review.
Measurable: The student will track their contributions and noise levels using a simple checklist for each class, aiming for a minimum
of three contributions per discussion and a noise level rating of 1 (quiet) to 3 (disruptive) with a goal to maintain a 1.5 average for
noise. Additionally, the student will keep track of all assigned individual, pair, and group work, aiming to finish 100% of assignments
on time for the next month.
Achievable: The student will dedicate 10 minutes each week to review their checklist, notes, and completed assignments, providing
weekly feedback to their teacher about their participation and understanding, including any challenges faced.
Relevant: Improving participation and organization will positively impact the student’s overall academic performance and
engagement in their education, supporting their goal of achieving a higher grade in their classes and developing critical life skills.
Time-bound: This goal will be implemented over the next 5 weeks, with formal check-ins with the teacher every 1 week to assess
progress, adjust strategies if necessary, and ensure scaffolding and support are provided for areas of weakness.
Example Goal Statement: "By the end of 5 weeks, I will actively participate in class by contributing at least three ideas per
discussion while maintaining an average noise level of 1.5 or below. I will ensure 100% completion of my individual, pair, and group
work on time and will provide weekly feedback to my teacher regarding my progress and any challenges experienced."
