Test 2
100 minutes
Name:
1- The power of a bus engine is transmitted using the belt-and-pulley arrangement
shown. If the engine turns pulley at ππ΄ = (20π‘ + 40) πππ/π , where t is in seconds,
determine the angular velocities of the generator pulley B and the air-conditioning
pulley C when t=3 s.
2- The slider block C moves at 8 m/s down the inclined groove. Determine the
angular velocities of links AB and BC, at the instant shown.
3- The bent rod has a mass of 2 kg/m. If it is released from rest in the position shown,
determine its initial angular acceleration and the horizontal and vertical components
of reaction at A.
4- The uniform 24-kg plate is released from rest at the position shown. Determine
its initial angular acceleration and the horizontal and vertical reactions at the pin A.
5- The 12-kg slender rod is attached to a spring, which has an unstretched length of
2 m. If the rod is released from rest when θ=30°, determine its angular velocity at
the instant θ=90°.
6- The slender 6-kg bar is horizontal and at rest and the spring is unstretched.
Determine the stiffness k of the spring so that the motion of the bar is momentarily
stopped when it has rotated clockwise 90° after being released.
7- The 10-g bullet having a velocity of 800 m/s is fired into the edge of the 5-kg disk
as shown. Determine the angular velocity of the disk just after the bullet becomes
embedded into its edge. The rod AB has a mass of 3 kg. Neglect the size of the bullet.
(Hint: (πΌππ’ππππ‘ )π΄ = πππ’ππππ‘ π
2 , where R is the distance between A and the point of
contact between the bullet and the disk.)
