Acrostic Poems
Directions: Read below to learn more about Acrostic poems. Then, write an acrostic
poem of your own. You may write a poem about summer or create an acrostic using
your name, or another favorite word that inspires you. Parents may help younger
children record the poems they create. Older children may write their acrostic
poems independently. Decorate your poem if desired.
What is an Acrostic Poem? An acrostic poem is a fun poem to write. The first letter of
each line of the poem spells out a word. The word can be a person, a place, or a
thing. Some acrostics rhyme and some do not. Each line of the poem can be as long
or as short as you want it to be. Here are three examples:
Ice Cream
Spring
I love every flavor.
Cookies & Cream.
English Toffee.
Sunny days bring beautiful flowers
Pink petunias and azaleas abound
Red roses attract bees and butterflies
Impatiens and irises brighten the garden
Now summer is around the corner
Green grass and trees are here.
