Title defense - Design and fisibility analysis of an of grid solar power system in sitio
yabyaban, brgy coring, basilisa, dinagat island
Significance of the Study
The significance of this study lies in its direct response to the energy needs of rural
communities, specifically Sitio Yabyaban in Brgy. Coring, Basilisa, Dinagat Island. By
introducing an offgrid solar power system, the research promotes a sustainable and
environmentally friendly solution that harnesses renewable energy to improve the
quality of life in underserved areas. The system is designed to be cost-effective, reliable,
and tailored to local conditions, making it a practical alternative to conventional energy
sources.
This study empowers residents by providing access to electricity for lighting,
communication, and small-scale livelihood activities, thereby fostering social and
economic development. Furthermore, it serves as a model for future renewable energy
projects in similar offgrid locations across the Philippines. The research also contributes
to the growing body of knowledge in rural electrification, solar technology integration,
and sustainable engineering practices.
Definition of Terms
1. Solar Photovoltaic System – A renewable energy technology that converts
sunlight directly into electricity using solar panels. It is the primary source of
power in the proposed off-grid system.
2. OffGrid System - An independent power system not connected to the national
electricity grid. It relies on renewable energy sources and energy storage to
supply electricity to remote communities.
3. Battery Storage – A device or set of devices used to store electrical energy
generated by solar panels. It ensures continuous power supply during nighttime
or cloudy conditions.
4. Inverter – An electrical device that converts direct current produced by solar
panels and stored in batteries into alternating current , which is the standard form
of electricity used in households.
5. Load Demand – The total amount of electrical energy required by households
and community facilities within Sitio Yabyaban. It is used as the basis for system
sizing and design.
6. Feasibility Analysis – The process of evaluating the technical, economic, and
environmental viability of the proposed solar power system to determine its
practicality for implementation.
7. Renewable Energy – Energy derived from natural sources that are replenished
continuously, such as sunlight, wind, and water. In this study, solar energy is the
main renewable source.
