“Finding Sophia”
He wakes with a name in his head.
Sophia.
That’s all he knows.
He stares at the ceiling. It is white, with a small crack running across it. He waits for more
memories to come. His home. His family. His own name. Nothing comes. He sits up slowly.
The room is small and plain. A bed. A desk. A closed door. Sunlight slips through the blinds
and makes lines on the floor. His heart starts to beat faster.
Who is he?
He looks down at his hands. There is a thin scar on his right wrist. His fingers are rough, like
he works with tools. But he doesn’t remember doing any kind of job. He stands and walks to
the mirror. A man with tired brown eyes looks back at him. Short dark hair. A small cut above
his eyebrow. The face feels strange, like it belongs to someone else.
“Sophia,” he whispers.
The name feels important. It makes his chest feel tight. He doesn’t know if Sophia is someone
he loves or someone he hurt. The thought scares him. He checks the desk drawers. Empty. He
pats his pockets. No phone. No wallet. No ID. It’s as if his life has been erased. He presses his
hands against his head, trying to force a memory to return. But there is only silence inside his
mind. Outside, he hears cars passing and people talking. The world is moving on, even though
he is stuck.
“Sophia,” he says again, more firmly this time. If the name is the only thing he has, then it will
be his starting point. Somewhere out there, Sophia is real.
And maybe, through her, he can find himself.sss
