Body Love & Awareness Practice
Each of our bodies are fonts of wisdom. Distinct from our minds, they are the sum of our experiences in
somatic form. Tuning into this wisdom is both instinctual, and a skill you can practice and deepen. Here are
some simple (and also quite advanced) practices to support you in doing so.
1. A Good Place to Start - Willingness
Close your eyes (if that feels good to you), take deep breath, and ask yourself the following:
Am I willing to have my body be my ally in my trading journey (and my life)?
Am I willing to allow my body to support me in expanding my capacity to receive on all levels?
2. The Basic Practice - Noticing
Where our attention flows, our energy goes. Bodies love receiving attention. So a simple practice to
nurture your relationship with your body, is to close your eyes, and bring your attention down out of your
head and into your body.
What sensations do you notice? How do they move and shift? And how quickly do you notice your
attention coming back up to your thoughts?
See the list of words on the next page to help you describe your experience.
Everytime you do this, you are nourishing your body and expanding your capacity to listen to it.
3. What does your “no” feel like?
Being able to map your “yes’s” and your “no’s” is a foundational aspect of tuning into your body’s wisdom.
There are many gradients of “yes’s”, but “no’s” are often very distinct - therefore, a good place to start.
Either on your own or with a partner, have items presented to you that you know you don’t like or in the
past have generated a visceral negative response. These could be ugly shoes, foods you don’t like, or TV or
music that is piercing to you. Bring your attention down into your body, and start to map the physical
sensations of what your “no” feels like.
You can do this exercise in many domains, and I recommend you do. As you continue, you’ll expand your
vocabulary and ability to notice, describe, and take action based on your body’s wisdom - our superpower
when it comes to trading.
