Believe in Yourself
The Search for Happiness and Success
Since time immemorial, human beings have been in search of peace and happiness. When things
happen according to a person’s desire, they become happy. Conversely, if things do not happen
according to their wishes, they become unhappy. However, these emotional fluctuations are
temporary. Long-term happiness comes from deeper sources: success in life, a healthy lifestyle,
strong relationships with family and friends, financial freedom, spiritual grounding, and social
recognition.
The Obstacles to Success
Can these things happen in every person's life? The answer is, unfortunately, 'NO'. Why does every
person in society not achieve success or their desired results? The answers vary. Some blame their
fate, while others blame their parents. Some blame circumstances, such as poor financial
conditions or a lack of support from family. Another category of people claims, "I have everything,
so I will not work hard to get more; I have already inherited everything from my ancestors." The first
category consists of excuse-makers, and the second consists of egoists. Both groups mistakenly
believe that success comes from the outside, which is not true.
The Power of the Subconscious
Success comes from within; it is a result of our thought process. The subconscious mind decides
the end result. It acts like soil: you will grow the exact plant corresponding to the seed sown in the
earth. Just as the soil does not know which seed is sown in it—its main work is simply to grow the
plant—our subconscious mind does not differentiate between good thoughts or bad thoughts. Its
sole function is to turn thoughts into reality. If you plant seeds of fear, helplessness, scarcity,
uncertainty, or incapability, the subconscious mind will manifest them. However, if you plant
confidence, self-reliance, capability, security, and abundance, the subconscious mind will
make those a reality.
Training the Mind
How does this work? If we think about a goal we haven't achieved yet, the conscious mind often
opposes the new idea in the early stages. However, if we practice imagining it many times a day for
months, the subconscious mind eventually accepts it. Consider the example of learning to cycle: in
the early days, the conscious mind anxiously signals the body to brake before every speed bump
and counts them sincerely. But with practice, a time comes when we can cycle effortlessly—even
while listening to music—automatically braking before bumps and reaching our destination without
conscious effort.
Tools for Transformation: Affirmation, Imagination, and Gratitude
Therefore, our thoughts should be positive and repeated frequently for months or even years.
Affirmation is a powerful tool to train the subconscious mind. Visualization is also essential for
transforming dreams into reality. Crucially, affirmation and visualization must be infused with
emotion and imagination.
The Creative Power of Imagination (Visualization)
Imagination is not merely daydreaming; it is the blueprint for reality. What the conscious mind
can clearly picture, the subconscious mind will diligently work to construct. When you visualize, you
must engage all your senses. Imagine the textures, the sounds, the smells, and the taste of
your success. Don't just see the finished product; immerse yourself in the feeling of having
achieved it. This level of sensory detail transforms a simple wish into a deeply felt experience,
which the subconscious then accepts as a command. This is why a powerful imagination is often
cited as the most important tool of the successful inventor or entrepreneur.
The Accelerant of Gratitude
Gratitude is the emotional accelerator that aligns your mind with abundance. It shifts your
focus from what you lack to what you already possess. When you cultivate a daily practice of
gratitude—actively appreciating your health, your relationships, and your current successes—you
immediately interrupt the negative cycles of scarcity and fear. By expressing thanks for the good
things in your present life, you signal to your subconscious that you are worthy of receiving
more good things in the future. This positive frequency ensures that the seeds of confidence and
capability you plant take root faster and grow stronger.
We must realize that we deserve what we want and adopt the mindset that "I have already achieved
my goal." There must be a strong feeling that the task is already done.
The Science of Belief
Suppose an average student wants to secure 95% marks. They should visualize that they have
already achieved the marks, that the mark sheet has been distributed, and that he is being praised
in public while other students clap. This internal feeling will push the student to do the necessary
work to get the desired result. This is not a religious superstition or a miracle; it is science. As Dr.
Joseph Murphy wrote, what we give to the universe, the universe returns to us. If we give
sorrow, we get sorrow. If we give happiness, we will definitely receive happiness.
Overcoming Self-Doubt
Consider the story of a little girl named Riya. Her relatives and friends constantly told her she was
shy and could not speak fluently. This thought took root in her subconscious, and she became
afraid to speak in public. However, after reading Dr. Joseph Murphy's book and realizing the power
of her mind, she trained herself to speak. Eventually, she not only spoke on stage (the dais) but
went on to become a successful employee in a large company.
The Roadmap to Success
According to Dr. Murphy, if a person believes he is incapable of success, this belief manifests in
behaviors that hinder progress. Conversely, cultivating empowering beliefs leads to constructive
actions. Recognizing this dynamic is essential for personal growth. To maintain this growth,
patience is key. Some aspirants quit just before getting the job; without patience, the mind
becomes restless and drags them off the path. Additionally, the author advises us to surround
ourselves with positive, successful people and keep a distance from negative influences.
Daily Practice
Upon waking and before sleeping, one should think and say: "I am capable, I am happy, I am
successful, and I am healthy." If a person practices these positive affirmations daily, the
subconscious mind accepts them as truth and works to make them possible. Even in illness, the
author suggests telling yourself, "I am healthy, I am happy." The subconscious will send
messages to every cell of the body to recover.
Conclusion
When you face failure, tell yourself: "I am a winner. God is with me. The Universe works in my
favor, and no power in the world can defeat me." With this mindset, fear vanishes, and
confidence returns. Self-talk is a vital part of the journey. By believing in your own strength and
silencing self-doubt, you clear the way for success.
