Through the next four years at Brown, I plan to pursue a STEM focused course load as I
explore specific interests as well. Throughout high school I was a part of the Science and
Engineering Learning Community at my school, a program focused on introducing students to
various fields of engineering through electives. Thanks to this community, as well as science
classes such as AP Physics C, I know that I am interested in pursuing a career in engineering,
likely mechanical engineering. On top of engineering, I am also interested in taking classes
about biology, business, French, and in general subjects that I am curious about. Finally, I was
also hoping to be able to partake in some kind of research assistance my Freshman year if
possible. The only academic concern I have currently is simply not to take on too much of a
course load my Freshman year, and to have time for clubs and recreational activities. I am
planning on joining activities such as Brown’s run club and the Formula Racing team. I also was
hoping to better understand how I will be able to use my AP scores at Brown. Once I submit
them, am I automatically eligible to take classes higher up, or do I need some sort of an
approval from an advisor?
