1. Using your notes and module links for this week:
Write a brief definition of worldview.Define the difference between Modern and
Contemporary.
- Worldview is a collection of views and concepts of each person about the
world around them or about themselves in that worldview. It helps us
determine our goals and the meaning of life and choose a direction that is
consistent with those goals and ideals.
- difference between Modern and Contemporary :
Modern : It's the plan that started a few hundred years ago with the
Enlightenment. The main goal was to use science, reason, and logic to build a
better, more organized world instead of using religion. It was all about
progress, industry, and finding the one right way to do things. It’s more like a
big giant worldview that everyone has to follow
Contemporary: Countless personal, reflective worldviews.contemporary is
more about personal worldview based on reflecting about the unperfect of
mordern wolrdview . As people are not binding to the mordern rules but rather
doing things their ways.
2. Identify Write a short definition of these terms used in the Peter Berger
Summary: ( use Module links and handouts)
- Nomos : is the ultimate blueprint for a society's operation, forged from human
concepts and then hardened into unquestioned reality and protect human
society from the chaos and meaninglessness that comes from having no
order (anomy)
- Chaos : A terrifying disorder that Nomos protect people from. Berger calls this
“anomy” in his work. It is the existential fear we feel if our worldview collapses.
3. CLICK to this link and take this survey to have a quick snap of your
worldview in comparison to others. Write a view sentences about your
reaction to this worldview questionnaire and write a paragraph or short points
that summarize some of the important points of your worldview.
- After taking the survey , my result is “Worldview you identify with most: Modern
(9)
Worldview you identify with least: Traditional (-7)”
- As a modern and scientific person, I believe that everything can be explained
by science. Although there are still many things that humans have not
discovered and explained, with the help of science and the development of
technology, over time, humans can develop to a new height.
- I also think that religion also helps people develop scientifically by decoding
mysterious phenomena that people in previous centuries could not explain
and could only believe that they were supernatural phenomena.
* Summary of my worldview :
- Reality : everything can be proved by using advance tech and science
- Purpose in live : to pursult happiness based on my own choices
