Essay
Right now, I am facing the transition from 19 to 20, and while it sounds like a small
change—just one year—it feels much bigger. Being a teenager was one of the most
difficult periods of my life, shaped by the pressure of high school, rising societal
tensions, a year of COVID lockdown, and the challenge of navigating constant
physical and emotional change while trying to figure out who I was. When I started
my first semester of college, I thought I had finally arrived at adulthood, only to
realize that the transition is far more complicated than I expected. Even though I
was legally an adult, I was still learning how to be one. As my twentieth birthday
approaches, I find myself reflecting on how dramatically my life has changed in
such a short time and realizing that change will continue throughout my career and
personal life. Instead of expecting myself to have everything figured out, I am
learning to apply the advice I gave myself: focus on progress over perfection, trust
the process, and take life one step at a time. Accepting that growth takes patience
helps me feel more grounded as I think about my future career, reminding me that
uncertainty does not mean failure it means I am still becoming who I am meant to
be.
