PROJECTILE
GOAL
• Using only the energy/pressure created from collapsing a standard 4L
plastic milk/water jug (see image below), design a launching system that
can fly and land a projectile at a specified target.

The launching pad can be made of any combination of material and does
not have to be secured to the ground (however, the launching pad must
remain at ground level).
The entire projectile must be made of “repurposed” plastic only. You may
not use the lid of the 4l plastic milk/water jug in any way. No Lego,
Kinnex or other existing ‘building’ materials allowed for construction of the
projectile.
Minimal amount of glue accepted (any type of glue may be used but no
adhesive tape).
The whole projectile must travel as a unit. If any fragmentation occurs during
testing, the fragment that falls the shortest distance should be considered.
The only means of collapsing the milk jug is through stepping on it from a
standing position with one foot only.
The entire contraption (milk/water jug, launchpad and projectile) must fit
within an imaginary 50cm sphere.
SAFETY FIRST! Wear appropriate footwear and safety glasses when
testing your system! Ensure that your launching system is stable on
the ground and no one is in the flight path of the projectile.
CRITERIA
• The “projectile” is to be well crafted (overall impression).
• The “projectile” must travel through the air for the entire duration of its travel.
• The “projectile” must land in the target for full marks (marks can still be
obtained for getting close to the target - the further away the projectile

lands, the less marks given).
• Any failures to abide by constraints will result in reduced marks.
