My name is Kaitlyn Davidson, and I'm all about helping people who are struggling to learn the piano. I've made it my life's work to help students go from being frustrated with piano to playing their favorite songs in just a few months. If you're feeling any of the following challenges, then you're in the right place: You're confused by music theory, reading sheet music, and the dull drills and exercises. You're stuck playing children's songs and just want to play your favorite popular songs. You've tried taking piano lessons before, but they were just plain boring. You think you're too old, not talented, or just don't have the motivation to learn. Believe it or not, even though I had a solid classical piano background, I used to struggle with playing popular songs or improvising. My rigorous traditional training turned me into a sheet music robot. But now, things are different. I'm a well-rounded and creative pianist with a thriving music school of hundreds of students. I've helped countless adult learners go from zero to playing their favorite songs in months, not years. And the best part is that all of the transformations didn't come with tedious exercises, unnecessary music theory, or children's songs. I’ve seen many clients go from feeling frustrated and almost giving up to being over the moon and playing their favorite songs in no time, just by shifting the way they approach learning the piano. Don't believe me? Let’s take a look at one of my students, Michele... She felt stuck playing children's songs, and it didn't get her any further. It was a frustrating experience for her, and she felt hopeless, thinking that she would never achieve her dream of playing the piano. She even had a thought, "this is never going to happen." However, after completing our course, her favorite part was that she could play the songs she loved for the people she loved. It was a remarkable achievement for her, and she now feels confident playing the piano. She has been enjoying playing songs like "Fallen" by Alicia Keys and "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley. She has even loved singing and playing at the same time. Click Here To Watch Michele's Full Testimonial And Michele is not alone! If you follow my roadmap for accelerating your piano learning and playing the songs you love, you will also see the progress you deserve! The PIANOLY Practice Planner is an innovative tool that is designed to help piano students accelerate their progress and easily play their favorite songs in just 1 week. One of the key features of the planner is that it unlocks exactly what to practice each day. This is particularly helpful for students who struggle with focus during their practice sessions. By having a clear plan for what to practice each day, students are more likely to stay engaged and on track with their goals. This gives you a clear roadmap. The beginning of the planner sets students up for success by providing them with foundational tools and strategies to learn their favorite songs in just 1 week. Once students have completed these foundational sections, they can move on to the planner sheets themselves. These sheets are organized into daily, weekly, and monthly sections, and they are designed to be flexible and adaptable to each student's needs. The daily sheets, for example, provide space for students to write down the specific exercises and songs they will practice each day, as well as a space for them to reflect on their progress and identify areas for improvement. Let's get started with your foundations and step #1... SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE TRAINING ON HOW TO GO FROM 0 TO PLAYING YOUR FAVORITE SONGS IN MONTHS, NOT YEARS: CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP STEP #1: LEARN THE WHITE KEYS (THE EASY WAY) The keys on a piano are named after the first seven letters of the alphabet, starting with A, and they repeat over and over again on the piano. So, it's like the alphabet song, but instead of letters, we have piano keys! And for every seven keys we play, we complete one set. When you look at the piano, you'll see that the black keys are in groups of twos and threes. Learning the white keys on the piano may seem daunting, but there is a simple trick that most people don't know about: looking at the black keys! Most people memorize the white keys the hard way, by trying to remember each note one by one. By focusing on the twos and threes, you can quickly and easily identify the white keys. It's a trick that many beginners overlook, but it can save you a lot of time and effort. SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE TRAINING ON HOW TO GO FROM 0 TO PLAYING YOUR FAVORITE SONGS IN MONTHS, NOT YEARS: CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP Let's start with the group of two black keys. If you look to the immediate left of the first black key, you'll see a white key, and that's the note "C." So, the first white key to the left of a group of two black keys is always "C." Moving to the right, the next white key is "D," then "E." Now let's move to the group of three black keys. If you look to the left of the first black key, you'll see a white key, which is "F." Then, if you move to the right and look to the left of the second black key, you'll see "G." So, the white keys underneath the three black keys are "F" and "G." Then, following the same pattern we saw earlier, we have "A" and "B." Knowing these patterns can help you quickly find the white keys on the piano. If you're looking for a particular white key and you're not sure where it is, start by identifying the nearest black keys, and then use the patterns to guide you to the white key you need. And chords are super important because they're the building blocks of music. Did you know there are different types of chords? One of the main differences between chords is whether they're major or minor. Major chords sound happy and bright, while minor chords are more sad or gloomy. So, how do you know the difference between a major and minor chord on the piano? Let's start with what a "half step" is first... When you're learning to play piano, you'll hear the term "half step" a lot. So, what exactly is a half step? A half step is the distance between any two adjacent keys on the piano. This means that if you start on one key and move to the key immediately to its right or left, you've moved a half step. It's the smallest possible interval between two notes, and it's important to understand because it's used to build chords, scales, and melodies. So, if you're trying to play a song or learn a new chord, knowing how to identify and play half steps is a crucial skill that you'll need to master. These are all examples of half steps - going from one key to the very next key. SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE TRAINING ON HOW TO GO FROM 0 TO PLAYING YOUR FAVORITE SONGS IN MONTHS, NOT YEARS: CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP If you want to build a major chord on the piano, you can do it using half steps! Here's the deal: starting with any note, count up four half steps and then add another three half steps. The note you end on will be the top note of your major chord. So, if you're starting on C, you'll count up four half steps to E, and then add another three half steps to get to G. That's your C major chord, made up of the notes C, E, and G. It's a really important pattern to know if you're trying to create major chords from scratch. And once you've got it down, you'll be able to make major chords starting on any note on the piano! MAJOR CHORDS: 4 + 3 HALF STEPS To build a minor chord on the piano using half steps, you'll follow a similar pattern. Starting with any note, count up three half steps and then add another four half steps. The note you end on will be the top note of your minor chord. For example, if you start on the note A, you'll count up three half steps to C, and then add another four half steps to get to E. The resulting chord will be an A minor chord, which is made up of the notes A, C, and E. It's the backbone of the song's melody and gives it a particular mood or feel. Now, if we take the chords C major, G major, A minor, and F major, we have the most popular chord progression of all time! This progression is so popular that it's used in thousands of songs in different genres. To play a song with this progression, you'd simply play C major for a bit, then G major, then A minor, and finally F major, and repeat that sequence over and over again. It's a simple but effective way to create a variety of songs with different lyrics, melodies, and rhythms. Pretty cool, huh? It's used in countless hit songs across a variety of genres, from pop to rock to country. Some examples include "Let It Be" by The Beatles, "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, "Someone Like You" by Adele, and "Africa" by Toto. The reason why this progression is so popular is that it creates a catchy and memorable sound that listeners can easily connect with. To get started, you can place your right hand on the C, G, Am, and F chords, playing them in that order repeatedly. Then, for your left hand, you can play a corresponding key with each chord. For example, when your right hand plays the C chord, you can play the C note with your left pinky or you could play 2 Cs with your pinky and thumb (see below). I highly recommend starting with 1 note in your left hand first. When your right hand moves to the G chord, you can move your left hand to play the G note, and so on. It may feel a bit tricky at first, but with practice, you'll start to feel more comfortable and confident playing both hands together. It's a great exercise to help you develop your piano skills and play a variety of songs with ease. LEFT HAND RIGHT HAND Now let's start playing YOUR favorite songs! You can head over to a site like ultimate-guitar.com or simply do a Google search for the song you're interested in playing, along with the words "chord progression." Once you find the chord progression, you can write it down or print it out, and then use it to practice playing the song on the piano. Start by playing the chords in the right hand and the corresponding notes in the left hand. Now let's talk about how to properly read and play these chord progressions... SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE TRAINING ON HOW TO GO FROM 0 TO PLAYING YOUR FAVORITE SONGS IN MONTHS, NOT YEARS: CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP When playing a song with a chord progression, it's important to pay attention to the chords that are shown above the lyrics. These chords indicate when you should switch to the next chord in the progression. Major chords are typically written as just a capital letter, while minor chords are a capital letter with a lower case m beside it. So, for example, if you're playing "Let It Be" by The Beatles (see below), you'll see the chord "C" above the word "find." You'll want to play a C Major chord on the piano at this point. Then, when you see the chord "G" above the word "times," you'll switch to playing a G Major chord. And so on. "Let It Be" By The Beatles: C G Am F When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me C G F Speaking words of wisdom, let it be C By following the chords that are shown above the lyrics, you can play the song with the correct chord progression and create a musical accompaniment to the melody. Of course, you'll want to pay attention to the rhythm and timing of the song as well, but the chords will give you a solid foundation to build on. With some practice, you'll be able to play your favorite songs with ease! Now, it's your turn to hop online and search for some songs that you're interested in playing. Don't worry if it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it - with time and dedication, you'll be jamming in no time. Learning to play the piano can be challenging, and it's easy to get discouraged when you don't see progress right away. However, with a few tips and tricks, you can stay in a positive mindset and keep yourself motivated to continue playing. Firstly, it's important to set realistic goals and celebrate your progress along the way, no matter how small. Secondly, don't be too hard on yourself when you make mistakes - mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, and everyone makes them. Finally, find ways to make practicing enjoyable, whether that's by playing your favorite songs or setting up a comfortable and inspiring practice space. By adopting a positive mindset and staying motivated, you can continue to learn and grow as a pianist and enjoy all the rewards that come with playing music. Print any of these sheets out and use them how you see fit! One of the most unique sheets is the "Letter to Yourself" sheet, where you can write a letter to yourself that's dated 90 days from now. In this letter, you can write down all of the things you've accomplished and all of the songs you've learned. It's a great way to set goals and visualize your progress over time. Another useful sheet is the Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Plans sheets, where you can plan out your practice schedule for the coming days, weeks, and months. This will help you stay on track and ensure that you're dedicating enough time to practicing each day. The Repertoire List and Dream Songs List are also helpful, as they allow you to keep track of the songs you're currently working on as well as the songs you hope to learn in the future. These sheets can help you stay focused, motivated, and on track as you work to improve your piano playing skills. If you're looking to accelerate your piano progress, the PIANOLY daily practice routine offers three simple ways to do so. First, practice all of your chords with your right hand and left hand (separately and then together) going from the bottom of the piano to the top without stopping. The purpose is to get used to playing chords and moving easily across the piano without stopping. Just practice a few chords per day and speed up your tempo over time. Second, practice just a few songs at a time, focusing on your favorite songs. Learn your right hand first, then add your left hand. Practice with the actual song playing so that you keep a steady beat. Set goals for when these songs will be completed. Third, focus on productive practice rather than how much time you spend sitting at the piano. Focus on what you want to accomplish with each practice session, instead of just saying that you will practice for a certain amount of time. By implementing these three steps into your daily practice routine, you'll be well on your way to accelerating your piano progress and achieving your goals. LET'S GET TO THE PRACTICE PLANNER SHEETS!
