1. said (v., past of say) – used when someone spoke words in the past
She said hello to her teacher.

2. ask (v.) – to say something because you want an answer
I will ask my mom for help.
He asked the teacher a question.
3. stand (v.) – to be on your feet and not sit or lie down
We stand up when our teachers comes into the classroom.
She always stands next to her best friend.
4. catch (v.) – to grab and hold something that is moving
I can catch the ball.
He can throw and catch a ball in the garden.
5. eight (n.) – the number 8
I have eight crayons in my box.
There are eight birds in the tree.
6. afraid (adj.) – feeling scared
The little cat is afraid of the dog.
I am afraid to walk alone at night.
7. away (adj./adv.) – not here; in another place
He ran away from the playground.
My grandma lives far away.
8. always (adv.) – at all times; every time
She always brushes her teeth at night.
We always eat dinner together.
9. playing (v.+ing) – doing something fun or a game
The children are playing soccer.
She is playing the piano.
