ZOO
Many say that the Greenville Zoo should be shut down, but
we say otherwise. Zoo’s have been around for thousands of
years, originally used as trophies now used for educational
purposes.The city council has to decide on whether they
should close it down for good or keep it open to the public.
Us, the people believe that the greenville zoo is beneficial to
us. As it provides education and happiness! In the text
“Zoo’s aren’t Victorian Throwbacks” they state, “From the
perspective of nature conservation, zoos have two major
roles: educating the public about the plight of our fauna,
and contributing to species recovery in the wild.” This just
shows that zoos help preserve animals by protecting them
but they also educate the public on how they live and how
to help them. Another reason why they should stay open is
because according to “Zoo’s aren’t Victorian Throwbacks”
They say, “Zoos contribute unique knowledge and research
to support field conservation programs, and thus species
recovery. In Australia, Zoos are directly involved in
monitoring free-ranging native fauna and investigations
into emerging diseases. Without zoos many fundamental
questions about a species’ biology could not be answered,
and we would lack essential knowledge on animal handling,
husbandry and care.” This shows just how much zoo’s can
do for us, they provide knowledge about what to do for
future generations and teaches children the importance of
conservation.
But some people think the opposite,they say that zoos don’t
help the animals they harm them, they get locked up in a
cage just for entertainment. In the text, “Zoo’s aren’t
Victorian Throwbacks,” state that captive bred populations
can lose essential behavior and cultural diversity. And then
they respond with some species that benefit from it and can
easily go back into the wild.
In conclusion I think the Greenville Zoo should stay open
because it doesn't just help the animals it helps the people,
the future generations. They provide vital information
