History is the study and understanding
of the past.
It allows us to learn about events that
happened before human existence and,
later, about the development of
civilizations, cultures, and systems of
rules once humans appeared. By
studying history, we understand how
societies have grown and changed over
time. We also discover artifacts that
archaeologists dig up, which help prove
theories about what happened in the
past. Through history, we learn how our
ancestors thought and lived, and we
use those lessons to develop a better
future for generations to come.
