narrative or descriptive captions.
Building a storyboard is the first step in creating a public information film. A storyboard
helps bring your message to life. It also acts as an illustration when presenting your ideas to
an audience.
A storyboard is a series of scenes that represent the breakdown of your film. You should use
it to illustrate the important message(s) of motivational interviewing and other
psychological theories of health and wellbeing and how these can be used to increase
wellbeing in your target audience. In doing so you will narrate each scene you present to the
film producer in such a way that they understand what is going on in each scene. For
instance, you will need to let the film producer know who the characters are, the health and
wellbeing issue and the behaviours and actions in each scene. You should use the template
provided to build your storyboard.
The following steps will help you build your storyboard.
1. Think about your message.

What aspect of behavioural change(s) is your public information film
to convey?

How will you convince your prospective audience that motivational
interviewing is something that they should consider?

What psychological theories will you apply to ensure that your
message is credible?
2. Establish a timeline

When and where the story will take place?

Decide on the appropriate order that main events of the story will
follow.

You do not have to follow a linear order. In other words your
storyboard can contain flashbacks, shifting perspectives, flash forwards,
multiple timelines, and alternative outcomes or breaking through the 4th
wall). If this is the case, you may adapt your template to reflect a non- linear
perspective. But do not forget to narrate your scenes carefully so that the
decision maker/ film producer can follow your train of thought.

You need to identify the key moments and scenes in your story. This
is important as the storyboard should give the film producer the ‘gist’ of the
whole film.

A good method for creating a storyboard is to only include the key
scenes that will help the film producer understand the importance of ensuing
behavioural change.
3. Key scenes

Include scenes that will help to illustrate how the story develops
from beginning to end.

Include scenes that illustrate the key turning points in the story.
Include scenes that illustrate changes in the settings for the
various scenes ( i.e home, place of work, therapy room ).

Remember to include some sort of action in each scene ,

4. Key narrative


Include a detailed narrative of each key scene that you have included.
Include psychological models/ theories, all of which should be cited
and then referenced in your reference list below

Your narrative should include a rationale and the aim of your film.

The overall purpose of your narrative is to provide clarity to each
scene; the message of your film should be very clear.

A good storyboard will ensure that the film producer is able to
interpret your message and then pass it on to the production team and film
director for execution.
5. The final touches

After doing all the above, you need to review what you have done and
make the final changes.

See to it that each scene portrays the action that you wanted it to.

It is advisable that you seek a second opinion on this to verify that the
storyboard has a good flow.

Ensure that you submit this assignment on time.

Ensure you copy and paste the PS2109 cover sheet which you will find
in the Assignment folder on Bb. You should complete the self-reflection
section of the coversheet.
